  • We are seeking to appoint a Glass Washing and Sterilisation Operative to form part of the Laboratory Media Preparation and Glassware Sterilisation team at The Babraham Institute. Duties will include organising with colleagues both the daytoday operation of the central glassware preparation facility and the weekly laundry collection plus daily replenishment of hygiene consumables. Additionally preparing, dispensing and sterilising a range of laboratory solutions and bacterial growth media and providing laboratory and glass washing support.

The post holder will be expected to be a flexible member of the team with good time management and excellent organisational skills.

This is a scientific services role with a primary aim to support the Institute scientist conduct their research, therefore good customer service and communication skills are also essential.

Applicants should have good literacy and numeracy skills, ideally GCSE grade C or above in English Language and Mathematics or equivalent.

Experience of working in a laboratory environment would be highly desirable, and good demonstrable IT skills with basic Microsoft software programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, Edge) are also desirable.

The role may be physically demanding, tasks include loading and unloading glassware and bottles of media (up to 10L).Please note that this position provides operational support to the Institute scientists, and does not include any scientific research duties and therefore is not a route into a research position.-The Institute has joined the Technician Commitment initiative, which is a commitment to support the recognition, visibility, sustainability and career development of our research support community, which includes the BSU, Scientific Facilities, Computing, Stores & Purchasing, Technical Services, Health & Safety and the Research Assistant communities.
