Scarborough/Ryedale/Craven/Harrogate/ localities but may need to cover areas across North Yorkshire if necessary, with some hybrid working options.

Hours:
Full time/ 37 hours per week (part time hours considered)

Occasionally as required at election times only

About the job


We are looking for 3 Electoral Services Officers to join our Elections team supporting the delivery of all election / polls and maintenance of the electoral register.


We are looking for one post to support our Harrogate and Craven locality, but at key election times will support across Harrogate, Craven and Selby, also supporting the whole of North Yorkshire with some areas of work.


The role


This is an exciting and challenging opportunity suiting highly motivated individuals to work as an Electoral Services Officer responsible to the Electoral Services Manager and working under the supervision of Principal Electoral Services Officers.


You will assist with the safe and effective delivery of all types of elections and polls with North Yorkshire by contributing to the organising of polling materials, booking of polling stations, appointment of staff for polling activity, and be heavily involved with the various key parts of the election process including the count of votes after a poll.

This can include late evenings and weekend working at key election times.


What you will bring
This is a very challenging role that requires someone who is resilient and ability to work flexibly and at times, long hours, under pressure to meet tight deadlines


You will also have:

  • Have a good working knowledge and understanding of elections rules and practice
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • IT literate
  • Political awareness
  • Excellent time management with the focus on prioritising own workload
  • Ability to use your own initiative and as a team member
  • AEA Certificate (or willingness to work towards)
