A growing diagnostics start-up has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Organic Chemist to join its team.

You will be focused on leading the design, synthesis (including, scale-up), characterisation and expansion of a library of novel functional microparticles.

To be considered, you must have commercial lab experience including multi-step organic synthesis expertise, and have knowledge of glycomics and cell recognition processes.


Role Responsibilities:


  • Research target molecules and develop synthetic routes
  • Use computational tools, retrosynthetic analysis, knowledge and experience to improve route design
  • Optimise purification of new compounds and fully characterise them
  • Write papers for peer reviewed publications and attend conferences
  • Assist with prototype evaluations and experiments
  • Assist with development of quality control processes
  • Attend internal and external meetings as required
  • Oversee procurement and maintenance of reagents
  • Support IP protection activities (including patent drafting).
  • Develop, execute and monitor quarterly workplans
  • Maintain detailed laboratory records and keep up to date with relevant literature
  • Participate in the entire research and development lifecycle, from concept to product release.
  • Present developments to internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure that all laboratory activities comply with Health and Safety guidelines

Experience Required
A motivated, team player with strong interest in building a career in the Life Science sector

  • PhD, or MSc level qualification in Organic or Carbohydrate Chemistry or related field with 3 years of industry experience
  • Good understanding of multistep organic synthesis
  • Knowledge of glycomics and cell recognition processes
  • Experienced in Bioconjugation (highly desirable)
  • Experienced in Oligosaccharides synthesis (highly desirable)
  • Analytical thinker with good problemsolving skills to overcome technical issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with characterisation techniques (NMR, LCMS)
  • Experience with nanoparticles/microparticles
  • Good understanding of Project Management and reporting
