An opportunity has arisen for a Senior HR Advisor within the Medical Staffing Team in the Human Resources Department from 1 st July 2024 until 21 st August 2025 to cover maternity leave.


The Senior HR Advisor (Medical Staffing) role is to ensure that the doctors and all levels of management have a supportive and proactive contact within the HR Department when dealing with the complex employment and service issues for all grades of medical staffing.


This role is responsible for engagement with, and employment of, all training doctors coming through the organisation, ensuring a streamlined process for the stakeholders involved.


The successful applicant will respond to various employment and payroll queries from both the doctors and the managers of each service.

They will work with the Service Managers and associated HRBP's to ensure issues within each department are dealt with efficiently and effectively.

They will also work to identify any recruitment required within the training grades and advise/guide the Recruitment Team accordingly.

They will oversee the arrangements of the Consultant AAC panels, as well as be part of these panels to advise around interview and employment processes.


This role works closely with the Medical Staffing Manager, to ensure the safe recruitment of overseas doctors and focus on new development and career opportunities within the organisation and ICS.


  • Preemployment checks & starting documentation for all training doctors
  • Identifying the correct grades and associated pay based on the Terms and Conditions for Training Doctors
  • Contract distribution for all training grades of doctors
  • Identifying pressures on the service from training vacancies and LTFT's and ensuring prompt recruitment to offset these pressures
  • To meet with doctors to discuss both contractual and payroll issues as well as pastoral care and sign post them to areas of help both within the organisation and deanery.
  • To create bespoke rosters for part time trainees in line with guidance from NHS Employers
  • To advise and support rota coordinators and service managers on Trust policies and management of doctor's queries.
  • To support and advise the Recruitment Team on recruitment for all levels of locally employed doctors including preemployment checks and contracts.
  • To participate in all meetings to support directorates with engagement and development of doctors

Job summary:

To act as the first point of contact for managers within the pathway for delivering HR advice.

To work with a range of personnel, partners and stakeholder, including staff side/unions to ensure that best practice HR is delivered in line with national and local strategy and plans.


To provide a deputy role to the Medical Staffing Manager in respect of all aspects of medical staff recruitment, contract administration, processing of new rotas to meet the requirements of the European Working Time Directive and New Deal for Doctors, advice on HR issues.
