Humberston Academy is now recruiting for a Student Guidance Manager


Our pastoral department is one of the key elements that enables our students to have a well-rounded approach and positive attitude to prepare them for the world of work.


The successful applicant will be part of a team that has a offers pastoral support as well as always approaching any task with a positive and hardworking ethos.

Our pastoral team go above and beyond to support students school learning. This has led to Humberston Academy achieving an 'Outstanding' status.


About the Role
To support the attainment, behaviour and pastoral/safeguarding care of students within a year group/s. To lead by example, promoting our warm, strict approach and upholding our high expectations with consistency. To support, nurture and develop our students through effective communication with relevant members of staff.

  • To uphold our high expectations and embed the behaviour policy with consistency (warm: strict).
  • Monitor student attendance, attainment, behaviour and welfare, implementing necessary interventions when appropriate.
  • Monitor and support daily report students (Tutor/HOY) and liaise with parents/carers regularly to rectify behaviour.
  • Attend line management, pastoral and safeguarding briefings every week.
  • To be a part of the wider safeguarding team and to support/attend safeguarding meetings and interventions.
  • To know the 4 types of abuse and be able to spot early signs and symptoms.
  • To work closely with students, teachers and parents/carers and other support staff as well as outside agencies to ensure that students flourish within the Academy environment and thereby achieve their potential;
  • To work with individual students, using a range of strategies, to ensure that they achieve personal goals;
This is a permanent post, 37 hours per week, 39 weeks per year.

Who we are looking for:


  • Minimum 5 GCSE passes at Grade C or above, or equivalent, including English and Mathematics
  • Excellent numeracy/literacy skills equivalent to NVQ Level
  • Able to communicate effectively with students and parents to represent the Academy positively and feedback information as appropriate
  • Highly motivated
  • Ability to deal with confidential material
  • Enthusiastic and prepared to work hard
  • Commitment to safeguarding the children and young people in the school's care
  • Honest and trustworthy
  • Good organisation and time management skills
  • Have high expectations of what students and staff can achieve
  • Fully supportive of the aims and ethos of Humberston Academy
