Regional Head of Rented Housing, Southwest

Full time, 37.5 hours


Location:
Home based, with regular travel across the Southwest


Salary:
Circa £67,000 (plus £6,400 car allowance), April 2023 pay award pending.

About the role


This role reports to the Director of Rented Housing, South with responsibility for leading our rented housing operations in the South West region, which covers approximately 300 housing locations for older people across a wide geographical area covering the Midlands, the South and South West.


You will also be a key member of the senior leadership team in Housing Services, working closely with other Regional Heads and the Housing Senior Leadership Team to bring about continuous improvement with our services and help deliver our ambitious 'Be Me' Housing Transformation Programme.


The key purposes of the role are:

  • To lead and develop the regional housing management team to deliver excellent customer service and drive change in line with Anchor's business aims and objectives.
  • To deliver the Rented Housing Strategic Plan in the region and drive a continuous improvement culture and change leadership.
  • Management of internal and external stakeholder relationships
  • Ensuring compliance with all regulatory/statutory and internal governance/policy

Key activities for the role include:

  • Contribute to the development and review of the rented housing and support operating plan that keeps apace with the business's growth, activities, and ambitions.
  • Work with development to ensure that any new rented retirement or mixed tenure schemes in the region are operationally sustainable and meet the needs of our customers.
  • Work with senior colleagues in the Housing Services directorate to develop service improvement plans and ensure there is a culture of continuous improvement across the region
  • Contribute to Property, Housing, Customer Services, IT and support the development of Assistive Technology solutions across the region, by utilising modern technologies.
  • Keep abreast of developments in best practice, horizon scanning to identify any future developments that may impact on the delivery of housing and support for older people and inform the Director of Rented Housing accordingly
  • Drive excellent customer service throughout the region, measured by customer satisfaction scores.
  • Lead the implementation of change initiatives across the region designed to enhance service offering and customer choice e.g., technology solutions, wellbeing activities engaging with and managing customer expectations
  • Be the lead person for rented housing in respect of tenancy management and ASB, health and safety, Business Continuity or Policy as determined by the Director of Rented Housing
  • Ensure all colleagues in the region have current performance and training objectives agreed through quality conversations, creating a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Drive change implementation across the region, promoting colleague engagement surveys and their results and ensure action plans are acted on
  • Deliver on a broad range of KPIs relevant to the Rented Retirement Housing function ensuring the region is fully compliant
  • Setting and managing the annual budget for the region and support
  • Ensure all policies and procedures related to housing and support services are appropriately monitored and kept under review to safeguard AH's interests
  • Ensure value for money in the planning of all activities.

About you

The post holder will have:

  • Proven ability to lead and motivate people in "steady state" and change environments, preferably with dispersed teams and services to older people
  • Worked in the Housing sector and specifically, tenancy and rented housing regulatory environment
  • Proven experience of delivery large scale change and projects
  • Experience in managing a budget and financial planning.
  • Interpretation and understanding of technical contracts
  • Experience in building and maintaining effective relationships with external stakeholders, including negotiation
  • Knowledge of relevant operational procedures in the management of rented properties and customers
  • Clear understanding of critical areas of compliance with internal procedures and external regulatory legislation
  • Business and financial planning and budget management
  • KPI targets and service standards
  • Knowledge of regulatory and legislative requirements in a housing setting
  • Good understanding of Local Authority and NHS structures/ key drivers and of housing related support, care, and NHS funding
  • Been educated to degree level or QBE through equivalent and relevant training and/or experience. Evidence of continued professional development would be an advantage
