Duties & responsibilities


Primary Role:


  • Setup and operate the computer controlled SMT assembly line to fulfil the requirements of the Work Plan, ensuring maximum output and mínimal quality issues.
  • Setup board loader, conveyors, solder paste printer, pick & place machine, reflow oven and AOI.
  • Print Feeder Allocation Sheets and prepare the component kit.
  • Load components on to feeders fit these on to the pick & place machine audit the kit.
  • Dekit the machine on completion of a job.
  • Handplace SMT components as required.
  • Provide firstline SMT support and/or program adjustments using Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Assist Production Engineering with secondline support.
  • Conduct AOI and visual inspection to IPC610 standard, raising any quality issues with the Production Engineer, Production Manager and/or Quality Manager.
  • Undertake rework activity as required.
  • Complete scheduled Preventative Maintenance and cleaning.
  • Document all work completed on the SMT process using the company ERP system.
  • Stocktaking SMT components.

Secondary Roles:


  • General soldering skills, understanding the relevant IPC standards.
  • Subassembly processes (e.g. drilling, milling, bonding).
  • General electromechanical assembly (box build).
  • Cable/sensor/probe assembly.
  • Packing of finished goods.
  • Accurately record/communicate company & product data to Company Quality Management System standards.
  • Comply with all health and safety requirements as stipulated within standard operating procedures & company procedures.
  • Involvement/participation in team projects & process improvement initiatives such as 5S/6S.
  • In addition, the jobholder may have to perform other duties deemed necessary for the benefit of the company, as assigned by the Production Manager.

Skills and Experience (Core):


  • Proven background in operating an SMT assembly line.
  • Experience of working within a similar medium volume electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Competent in dexterous hand assembly processes and soldering of electronicbased products, inline with standard output rates.
  • Using Microsoft Word, Excel or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret written work instructions & drawings, especially SMT layout diagrams.

Skills and Experience (Desirable):


  • SMT assembly line programming.
  • IPC-A610 'Acceptability of Electronics Assemblies' Certified.
  • Experience in using a PCbased Engineering Resource Planning (ERP) stock system.
  • Familiar with the use of basic test equipment such as digital multimeters and benchtop PSU.
  • Demonstrate skills in use of basic automatic test equipment (ATE).
  • Experience of packing products.
