  • London / StevenageThe role is responsible EH&S globally and is accountable to develop, implement and manage EH&S policies, SOPs, systems and processes at all Autolus sites using appropriate KPIs.


The role is accountable to conduct industry and statutory benchmarks, and partners with business & operation units to lead Autolus to achieve and excel performance in EH&S related matters.


The role provides leadership and technical expertise to the sites regarding all aspects of Environment, Health & Safety risk management, while fostering a positive EHS culture.

Associate Director of EH&S proactively steers business wide efforts regarding environmental stewardship and sustainability.

The role also ensures compliance across the full range of EHS aspects including, but not limited to, environmental licenses, relevant health and safety regulations, chemical and biological safety, occupational health, etc.


The role will lead development and implementation of EH&S site emergency and crisis management sops, ensuring plans are optimised, tested and effective.


Associate Director of EH&S overseas performance and delivery of EH&S teams at all Autolus locations and represent EH&S in development and execution of capital projects globally.


Key Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for Autolus EH&S compliance, making sure staff are aware of the importance and follow safety protocols.
  • Accountable for benchmarking Autolus EH&S performance using KPIs, prioritising and closing identified gaps.
  • Lead Autolus to achieve best in class performance and compliance with regards to sustainability.
  • Manage EH&S team, ensuring same high level of standards are implemented and achieved across Autolus sites.
  • Ensure implementation and participation of EH&S safety committees at each site.
  • Develop and implement EH&S framework within Autolus and align processes with the wider organization, including R&D, Process Development, and Manufacturing.
  • Act as business system owner for Autolus EH&S systems, to record near misses, incidents and accident occurrences and implement corrective actions.
  • Act as the Autolus EH&S representative in all collaborations with developers and landlords.
  • Advise Senior Leadership Team members on all aspects of Health & Safety.
  • Implement practical and effective methods, both preventative and remedial, of promoting health and safety and safe working practices in the workplace.
  • Ensure business current and future needs are evaluated appropriately, and relevant health and safety training is provisioned for.
  • Conduct all "risk assessments" as required by legislation and are reviewed at relevant intervals and to maintain records of the same.
  • Ensure execution of internal and external compliance audits of all areas of Autolus operations; report on findings and manage issue log through to completion.
  • Conduct site inspections of all new capital facility projects throughout construction, and review design/construction plans to ensure safe design and practices are implemented.
  • Ensure adequate provision of trained and competent first aid and fire safety representatives at all Autolus sites.
  • Collaborate with HR on OCC Health programme.
  • Ensure investigations into all accidents and nearmiss incidents are carried out and reported appropriately.
  • Advise Autolus senior leadership team of all incidents reportable under R.I.D.D.O.R. and OSHA
  • Identify areas where certified training and competence is required to meet the standards required by Legislation, Approved Codes of Practice, or H.S.E. guidance.
  • Keep up to date with changes in current legislation and implement such changes where relevant. Bring to the attention of the Senior Leadership Team any relevant new legislation.
  • Provision systems and processes required to ensure external contractor activities within Autolus demise meets minimum health & safety requirements.
  • Ability to manage CDM responsibilities for Autolus projects.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
