HIGHWAYS OPERATIVE
Are you looking for a new position in Merthyr? If you have previous or similar experience then we have a new role for you

We are currently recruiting for a highways operative position based in Merthyr working with Merthyr Council.


The purpose of your role will be responsible for providing effective, efficient, responsive and high quality highway maintenance service in highways.

Full time position

Location:
Triangle Business Park, Pentrebach, Merthyr Tydfil CF48 4TQ

Rate of Pay:
£12.59 per hours (Weekly pay)

37 hours per week

Monday - Thursday 7:30-15:30hrs, Friday 7:30-15:00hrs



Highways operative is required to assist in undertaking various tasks within the Highways Operations Workforce, under the posts remit.

You will be experienced and qualified in undertaking various tasks of Highway work and undertaking these works efficiently and safely with regards to H&S requirements.


  • To assist in undertaking duties in relation to Highways Maintenance and Construction such as Safety Fence, tarmacing, kerbing, paving, fencing, walling, ironwork, drainage, Gully Machine, winter maintenance and emergency works.
  • To assist in ensuring work is completed to a high standard and within agreed timescales.
  • To undertake health and safety responsibilities commensurate with the post.
  • To work as directed by the highways Supervisor, Mason, Electrician & Lead Hand, for daily operations.
  • To operate plant and equipment such as kerb saws, rollers, plate compactors, etc.
  • To be responsible for daily checks on vehicles & plant, defect reporting and keeping the vehicle clean (interior cab and body).
  • To assist in installation and removal of traffic management equipment including temporary traffic signals, where necessary.
  • To participate in any training necessary to meet the needs of the service.

Requirements for the role:

  • Good knowledge of highways maintenance, civil engineering works
  • Full, clean driving licence
  • Able to work in all weathers and environmental conditions
