Background


Kaleidoscope is a pioneering substance misuse treatment and support provider, offering evidence-based treatment and holistic support to individuals who access its services.

Staff teams work collaboratively with partner agencies including Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB), Local Authorities, North Wales Police (NWP) and the North Wales Office of Police and Crime Commissioner (NWOPCC), HMPPS (Her Majesties Prison and Probation Service), PHW (Public Health Wales), and other third sector support agencies.


Kaleidoscope offers dedicated assessment and interventions, care co-ordination, recovery care planning, group activities, health and wellbeing, harm reduction, housing support, independent living, and mutual aid services to those involved within the Criminal Justice system.

Services work closely with current community providers to ensure transfer of care from prison services, community treatment and into wider recovery support.


Services offered:


Dechrau Newydd aims to engage those at risk of offending or who are involved in the Criminal Justice system and support them to reduce offending, improve their health and social functioning, engage with multi agency support, and make sustainable lifestyle changes.

Dechrau Newydd provides Opiate Substitute Therapy (methadone/ oral lyophilisate (Espranor) and buprenorphine pro-longed release injection (Buvidal) for 12 weeks after release from prison, and to individuals who have been sentenced to a Drug Rehabilitation Requirement.

The service will offer dedicated assessment and interventions, care co-ordination, recovery care planning, group activities, health and wellbeing, harm reduction, recovery, and mutual aid services to those involved within the Criminal Justice system.

Dechrau Newydd is delivered in partnership by Kaleidoscope Project and CAIS/Adferiad.


Services work closely with current community providers to ensure transfer of care from prison services, police and probation, health care and treatment services into wider recovery support.


Role Purpose:

Based in Wrexham custody suite and Court and accessing the Voluntary Interview sites as identified.

The dedicated worker will support policeand courtswith the front end triage work and will hold a caseload of clients identified as 'persistent returners'.

The support offer will extend to those who refuse to engage within the custody environment by means of Follow Up contact within 48hrs upon release from custody.

They will liaise with North Wales Police and court service and deliver the brief interventions support offer.

They will work collaboratively with North Wales Police and engage with individuals that have Required Assessments (RAs) and manage the DN CJ 'persistent returners' so that we take a consistent approach to engagement - re engagement expectations and work to a defined strategy, working at all times in collaboration with Checkpoint and Women's Pathfinder to ensure a robust early Intervention approach across cohorts.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Engage detainees, undertake a triage in custody and offer immediate access to services.
  • Carry out detailed personal and risk assessments against criteria, including statutory Required Assessments and Restriction on Bail and DRR/ATR and RAR court assessments in conjunction with the National Probation
  • Work with Dechrau Newydd Service Colleagues, liaison with Court and Probation Service colleagues, other professionals, treatment agencies and clinical providers.
  • Working in partnership with the Police, Court Services, MARAC, MAPPA,IOM.
  • Liaison with prison substance misuse services, prison and community offender managers
  • Work collaboratively with Police, Probation and prisons to gather and analyse intelligence on behavioural patterns, to carefully assess the factors that contribute to drug use and link these with risks of offending and harm
  • Will support police with the front end triage work and will hold a caseload of clients identified as 'persistent returners'.

    The support offer will extend to those who refuse to engage within the custody environment by means of Follow Up contact within 48hrs upon release from custody.

  • Work closely with individuals to explore their needs, prioritising our response, seeking safety first and tailoring our approach in accordance with their engagement style, capabilities and characteristics
  • Triage assessments that provide a strong initial understanding of a person's needs and characteristics including potential barriers to engagement, conditions that may inhibit an assessment and a plan of how to manage those factors.
