Hours hours per week (part time also considered)

Accountable to Surgery Practice Manager and Lead GP

Responsible to PCN Manager and PCN Clinical Lead

Job Summary
Bexhill Primary Care Network are looking to recruit into a new exiting role into Bexhill Primary Care.


A General Practice Assistant (GPA) will support the GP(s) smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine clinical administration and c;inical tasks on behalf of the GP, therefore freeing up their time to focus on the patient.

This role would suit someone with some basic clinical knowledge, for example a Health Care Assistant or Nurse Associate.


Duties

Whilst administration and clinical duties remain open to the needs to of the surgery, these may include.

  • Sorting clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions inc Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.
  • Extracting information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes
  • Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients
  • Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.
  • Completing basic (nonopinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign, such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms, and to whom it may concern letters
  • Explaining treatment procedures to patients.
  • Carry out claims on behalf of the practice. for example for Prescriptions/FP10
  • Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultation(s)
  • Complete other administration tasks to help the GP practice run smoothly.
  • Run Clinics to support the GP's with Patient blood tests, Health Checks, ECG's etc.
  • Work collobratively between the Bexhill Primary Care Network GP Practices to ensure we are offering the patient outstanding patient care.

Skills

  • At least 2 years Primary Care experience
  • Have experience in Blood pressures, ECG's
  • Phlebotomy experience is beneficial.
  • Postholder must hold a GP Assistant Certificate Qualification or be willing to complete the required training, plus any other training associated with this role
  • Confident in communicating with patients via the telephone, and in person.
  • Computer skills are essential
  • Knowledge with EMIS would be advantage, Microsoft word, Outlook and Excel is essential.
  • The ability to take direction and then work under their own initiative is essential
  • Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development
  • Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work
  • Attend all relevant annual updates
  • Inform the lead GP of any concerns regarding GPA role and any professional development needed
  • Be aware of own professional boundaries and what to do when you have reached them
  • Alert other team members to issues of quality and risk
  • Work to practice protocols
  • Communicate effectively with other team members
  • Communicate effectively with patients and carers
  • Recognise people's needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly
  • Communicate effectively to outside agencies
  • Communicate clearly with their lead GP

You will be working at Collington Surgery for this post, but must be flexible to work at the PCN offices in Bexhill as well as the other Bexhill GP Surgeries if required.
