Description
A global biotech company requires a Senior Development Scientist to join its recombinant protein team.

As a Senior Development Scientist, you will work within the Technical Development team on internal New Product Development (NPD), Custom Projects, TechnicalSupport and Continuous Improvement Projects in conjunction with the Production Department.

To be considered, you must have significant experience of protein purification. Academic and manufacturing experience will be considered.


Key responsibilities
Will include but not be limited to;

  • Manage or work with defined Projects to successfully complete Technical Development projects to required timescales
  • Work within the Design Control system for specific projects ensuring the appropriate regulatory records are kept of product development
  • In the development process, find innovative solutions to get products to the end user
  • Meet commercial targets as defined by each Project Plan
  • Manage or work with projects and project team(s) in performance, design and execution of experimental work
  • Evaluation of individual and project team results, data reduction and interpretation throughout development
  • Coordinate and drive project activities
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all experimental work performed and batches of material produced and tested. Preparing and reviewing data and company documentation as required
  • Prepare and maintain project specific Design History Files in line with company Design Control System
  • Continue developing knowledge related to project work, whilst developing a broader awareness of company technical direction
  • To direct own work in conjunction with objectives for the individual projects
  • Identify and drive improvement opportunities
  • Ensure that all work the job holder is responsible for complies with quality audit processes (e.g. GMP, ISO13485)
  • Adherence to Health and Safety requirements
  • Day to day maintenance of a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness in the laboratory and good housekeeping e.g. temperature monitoring of fridges, calibration of equipment
  • Train and manage members of staff as required
  • Contribute to internal project meetings and liaise with external customers as required. Cohost customer visits and meetings
  • Ensure good communication with all required personnel and departments
  • Write technical reports for both internal and external circulation for review by Managers
  • In conjunction with the Production and QA, write SOPs and QA documentation in line with company Quality System
  • Help recruit, train and supervise members of staff as required
  • Represent the company at national and international meetings as required
  • Support Sales and Marketing and other departments with technical enquiries and liaise with Sales on new technical leads and proposals
  • Support product transfers as required
  • Support cost savings
  • Be aware of intellectual property

Requirements:


  • A science based degree,
  • Practical laboratory experience and knowledge of protein purification of difficult targets from specialist samples.
  • New Product Development experience and input would be desirable, especially if it extends to recombinant expression systems.
  • You will need to demonstrate good organisational skills to allow efficient management of projects and project teams in performance, design and execution or experimental work.
