What's the role about?


We are recruiting for a Junior Designer, specifically looking after mens shirts, soft accessories and leather accessories under the John Lewis label reporting to the Design Category Lead.


As a Designer in the Product Design Profession, you will be responsible for designing, developing and delivering original, relevant, customer-centric and distinct best in class own brand products.


What will you be doing?


As the men's shirts and accessories designer you will be focussing on shirting for our John Lewis in-house label, creating yarn dyed checks and stripes ideally using Pointcarre software.

You will be using your knowledge of yarns, constructions and wash techniques to create newness in the range each season.

You will also be working on our accessories range which covers hats, gloves and scarves in various woven and knitted constructions.

There is also an opportunity to work on our leather collection of accessories which consists of wallets, belts and bags.

You will ensure the sampling process is efficient.

Produce precise design packs and fulfil delegated seasonal design briefs with commercial and innovative solutions, supported by illustrating / briefing / sourcing key materials and details.


You will be working collaboratively with the other designers in the studio and with the buying, merchandising and technology teams to ensure you differentiate your ranges while keeping within the DNA of John Lewis.

You will take past sales into account and look for innovative ways to drive new trends throughout the range.


You will research thoroughly in order to drive the direction of men's shirts and accessories for John Lewis by creating seasonal trend boards and colour palettes, have excellent illustrator and cad skills, whilst being proficient in photoshop and google docs and slides.

Having Pointcarre experience is desirable.

What you'll have

  • Ability to create detailed factory brief sheets using illustrator Cads and annotations through PDFs and/or google sheets.
  • Great understanding of the Adobe Creative Suite, including illustrator and photoshop as well as Pointcarre as a plus.
  • Have an excellent understanding of various yarns, weights, constructions and dying techniques.
  • Understand the full garment and accessories process from sketch to production and the fitting process in between.
  • Delivering designs on time within the seasonal critical path.
  • Building trusting relationships with designers, buyers, merchandisers, technologists and our suppliers.
  • Ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of the John Lewis & Partners brand, the values and potential for products
