Deputy Head - Steep, United Kingdom - Bedales Schools
Description
A wonderful opportunity has arisen for a Deputy Head to join the Bedales Pre-prep Leadership Team working closely with the Head of the Pre-Prep to ensure that the school remains progressive and inspiring and operates effectively and efficiently.
The role will assist in the leadership of a highly motivated team in the Pre-Prep, and work with the wider 3 Schools' SLT in devising and implementing our mission, vision and strategy.
In support of this the Deputy Head will lead on Outdoor Learning and be responsible for driving the pre-prep school's Outdoor Learning provision, working closely with the Head of Outdoor Work at Bedales Prep School and the Head of Faculty: Outdoor Work at Bedales School.
The vision of Bedales' founder, John Badley, was to create a school which would be profoundly different from the public schools of his day.
From 1893, when Bedales began, there was a determination to shape the school around what was considered best for the individual child's educational welfare and happiness.
Two strands predominated:
breadth ("head, hand and heart") and the cultivation of the individual's intellectual and personal qualities ("intelligence, initiative and individuality").
Bedales School is unique. We want to foster an environment where questioning, divergent thinking and freedom to learn from mistakes are all encouraged.Central to our success is the sense that each person is a member of our community whose voice is entitled to be heard and treated with respect.
Through our inquiry-based learning approach, we provide opportunities for high levels of self-directed learning, allowing children to question the world around them and develop a sense that learning can thrill and invigorate.
This starts with our youngest learners in Early Years and 'choice and challenge' are very much part of our EYFS programme.
We promote student agency and encourage innovation, curiosity, and creativity, all of which help children grow into kind, thoughtful, and compassionate young people who are ready to contribute and flourish in our fast-changing modern world.
Experience & Background
You will have leadership experience involving the leadership, management and professional development of staff coupled with a positive 'can-do' approach and a readiness to embrace the ethos and values of the school.
With sustainability at the heart of the school, you will have a passion for the outdoors, and the ability to turn ideas into plans and actions.
You should also be keen to play a full and inclusive role in the life of our busy community and be able to contribute to the development of our progressive school by welcoming new approaches to teaching and learning.
You will be an experienced primary school teacher with a background in outdoor education, demonstrate a pioneering spirit, be highly motivated and enthusiastic in your leadership, and have a strong affinity with the Bedales ethos and vision.
