Description

This is a fixed term, full time appointment until 28 February 2025.

We are recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to support work on an ESRC supported project entitled "Dimension-selective attention and second language acquisition."

Learning a second language in adulthood can be a difficult process, and many second language learners end up struggling to comprehend speech and producing heavily accented speech.

One possible reason why learning a second language can be so difficult is that different acoustic dimensions play different roles in different languages.

This project will use EEG and fMRI to investigate attention to auditory dimensions and its role in language learning.

We are looking for a researcher to work under the supervision of Dr Adam Tierney, Prof Fred Dick, and other collaborators.

You will have experience developing and implementing EEG and fMRI protocols for investigating attention to acoustic dimensions in verbal and non-verbal sound streams and perceptual strategies underpinning auditory categorization, as well as writing up research for publication.

You will provide supervision and/or training of students, interns and research assistants in the use of research methods, equipment, and project procedures and will need to be a good communicator
