Energus are delighted to working in partnership with Cyclife to recruit a Waste Management Degree Apprentice to be based at their site in Workington, West Cumbria.

As for its subsidiary Cyclife Digital Solutions located in Bagnols-Cèze (France), it offers a decision support and intervention simulation tool, the DEMplus _for nuclear_ software based on real-time 3D technologies to obtain calculations combining costs, lead times, waste and dosimetry.

Cyclife, Workington - The
Cyclife
MRF (Metal Recycling Facility) is designed to support the United Kingdom's Low-Level Waste Strategy.

It is a
nuclear licensed site and environmentally permitted facility that is regulated by the ONR (Office for Nuclear Regulation) and the EA (Environment Agency).

The site has an assurance program that covers all aspects of safety, health, environment, quality and security that monitors all aspects of the business operations.

that radioactive waste will be managed to the highest standards of safety and environmental protection.



Responsibilities:


Your Waste Management Degree Apprenticeship (Level 6)

Your Employment:


For the duration of your degree apprenticeship you will work on behalf of Cyclife, however you will be employed by Energus.


Your Apprenticeship Programme and Qualification:


This apprenticeship is delivered in line with Apprenticeship Standard ST028- It will be delivered by National College for Nuclear at Lakes College, West Cumbria, in conjunction with the University of Cumbria.

The Honours Degree in Science provides a higher education scientific experience for the student in decommissioning & waste management.

The course has been designed to provide a combination of extensive practical work supported by academic studies with a unique experience within the National College for Nuclear Northern Hub.

The aim of the programme is to provide work ready scientists with the relevant skills, knowledge and behaviours to work within a highly technical environment.

During the honours degree you will study on one of three pathways with topic areas which will include:
Professional Development

Radioactive Waste Storage & Environmental Impact

Radiological Measurement & Laboratory

Project Management in Nuclear

Robot Systems, Configuration & Programming


The course will be delivered on a block release basis providing opportunities for students to undertake individual modules supporting continuous professional development.

A range of delivery methods will be utilised during studies with a large emphasis on 'learning from doing'.

This will include the use of a virtual realty suite enabling the students to experience industrial systems and situations within a safe environment.

In addition the students will have the opportunity to work within the brand new National College for Nuclear Northern Hub, with state of the art equipment preparing for real work experiences and real industrial scenarios.

A large proportion of the student activity will be with project work.
