Responsible to:
Senior Care Assistant's, Trained Nursing Staff & Manager.
Purpose of job:
To work with other staff in meeting the personal care needs of all Service Users. To maintain the philosophy of care, observe the service users charter. To support senior care staff, trained staff and management in helping to care for the service user physical environment.
Main Responsibilities:
Personal Care:
To assist service user with all aspects of personal care, consistent with the supervision by senior care assistants, trained nursing staff & manager
This will include:
- Assisting service user who need help dressing, undressing, bathing and using the toilet. Giving full care to those who are unable to care for themselves.
- Helping service user with mobility problems or other physical difficulties including the promotion of continence.
- Caring for service users who are unwell or dying.
- Helping those service users who are unable to feed themselves or drink fluids.
- Assisting in the promotion of service user's mental and physical stimulation, by means of activities, recreational pursuits, active listening and conversation.
- Make and change beds, tiding rooms as appropriate.
- Assisting with the setting of tables, trays and the serving of meals.
- Emptying and cleaning of commodes, urinary bottles.
- Assisting with laundering service user's clothes.
- Answering service user's bells, the front door and the telephone in a polite and professional manner, passing on information promptly and accurately to the appropriate person.
- Observe any changes in service user's condition and report this immediately to the trained staff on duty.
- Record fluid and pressure area care given and maintain appropriate charts.
- Relay accurately and quickly any information from service users, relatives or visitors to the trained staff or manager,
- Respect confidentiality and do not give out or discuss personal information relating to staff or service users.
- Assist service users with any medical appointments in / outside of home.
Health and Safety:
To use all equipment appropriately, reporting any faults where discovered
To comply with and keep updated on all safe working practices as outlined in the health and safety manual.
Report promptly any injury to a service user, themselves or a visitor to the nurse in charge, giving verbal or written reports as requested.
Team
Building:
To actively work with all other members of the staff team to ensure the efficient and happy day to day running of the home.
Disciplinary Matters:
Observe all aspects of the Disciplinary Policy.
Be aware of and use where appropriate, confidential disclosure to a senior member of staff, ie manager if you have any concerns about the actions of another member of staff.
