Always an Alternative are a newly registered Charity, providing mentoring, guidance and support to young people to make safe / positive life choices.


We are looking for vibrant, enthusiastic and caring individuals to join our team and support us to make a positive difference to young people's lives.

We are looking to recruit a Youth Worker who is qualified to a minimum level 2 Youth
Work Practice.

As part of your role, you will;

  • Build a rapport with young people and listen to their concerns
  • Inspire young people to achieve their aspirations
  • Provide young people a guiding hand and support to enable them to make informed decisions
  • Work with young people within the core values of Youth Work
  • Encourage and promote selfadvocacy and/or advocate on behalf of the young person
  • Take a lead in the running of the youth club including planning and participating in activities and all engagement required by the young people.
  • Assist in the cleaning and maintenance and security of the building, including fire prevention
  • Lead in developing and maintaining close links with the local community, voluntary organisations, voluntary helpers, police, social care, CAMHS and any other relevant professionals

Skills and Experience
You will be over 21 years of age.


Experience Essential

  • An understanding of empathy towards the difficulties young people are experiencing and an ability to relate to them on a onetoone basis.
  • Recognised Qualification in Children's or Youth Work.
  • Experience of working with others and being a team player.
  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Ability to support young people to see the potential that they are able to motivate themselves
  • Ability to work within policy and procedures but to use own initiative to achieve the best outcome for the young person.
  • Ability to maintain good relationships with young people, families, carers and professionals who are involved with the youth club.

Experience Desirable

  • 12 months experience of working with Children/Young.
People


Skills and Abilities

  • Practical knowledge of supporting to run a Youth Club.
  • Ability to carry out basic recordings, such as attendance records, accident reports etc.
  • Take pride in a job well done and enable young people to share this value
  • Good time keeping and reliability
  • Solution focussed
  • Ensuring a good standard of Equal Opportunities practice is upheld and the ability to develop high quality youth work within this context.
