Legal Counsel - Construction & Property

London

Up to £60,000 + Car/Allowance + Benefits


Howells Recruitment are working with a National Leader in Construction and Property; New Build and Refurbishment Schemes who are seeking Legal Counsel.

This is a permanent opportunity working for a well established Client.


You will be required to provide timely, high quality, practical and commercially focussed legal advice balancing legal risk with the commercial needs of the business.


  • Responsibility for providing commercially focused legal advice on a broad range of projects ensuring compliance with applicable law.
  • Reviewing, negotiating and/or drafting agreements and conducting contract negotiations with project counterparties primarily for development, construction, and related services.
  • Supporting with commercial and contractual matters with respect to tenders, projects, variations and ongoing contractual and operational matters for the areas within the business.
  • Assisting in the governance of transactions at local and Group level.
  • Working closely with colleagues including throughout the Group and with customers.
  • Managing external legal resource as required.
  • Involvement in developing and delivering training on various issues for colleagues across the business.


This role reports directly to the Head of Legal but will work closely with the legal and business teams especially business development, commerical and senior management and externally with counterparty legal advisers, external legal advisers, contract counterpartiesand customers.

2+ years PQE required.


Key skills and knowledge:

  • Good knowledge of relevant areas of law including construction contracts, outsourcing, commercial and UK public procurement.
  • Knowledge of or an experience of the UK construction industry is required.
  • Strong drafting, negotiating and analytical skills. Ability to draft and negotiate a variety of documentation including development, construction, consultants and services agreements.
  • Ability to deal with risk management, governance and compliance.
  • Ability to manage a sizeable workload in a fast paced environment.
  • Comfortable with stakeholder management but also able to work with colleagues at all levels of the business.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship skills, with the ability to influence and persuade others in a constructive manner.
