We have some exciting opportunities available at Barking and Dagenham College. We are looking for
Health & Safety Assistant to join us.


You will join us on a
full-time, permanent basis and in return, we will offer a competitive salary of £30,573 - £32,229 incl London Weighting.


The Health & Safety Assistant role:

To promote, develop and establish a positive culture within the College so that it can meet its legal requirements in terms of Health and Safety.

To ensure the effective management of Health and Safety across all college sites.

To take responsibility to support and give advice to managers and service users on Health and Safety matters.

Assist the Head of Health and Safety in developing appropriate management systems to ensure the effective management of Health and Safety across the college.


Key Responsibilities of our Health & Safety Assistant:

  • Assist with health and safety management systems in accordance with organisation plans and compliance with and adherence to legislation and applicable regulatory bodies' processes and procedures
  • To assist to develop the health & safety needs and goals of the college.
  • To assist in working closely with managers across the college to ensure all health and safety procedures and processes are adhered to across all college sites.
  • To work closely with ILCT, Estates and curriculum team to ensure that health and safety practices and procedures are embedded as appropriate across the college
  • Assist the Head of Health and Safety as required to train staff in their responsibilities as appropriate including risk assessments, first aid, manual handling, fire awareness and management systems training
  • Assist to provide support and advice to managers in their compliance

As our Health & Safety Assistant you should have the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Educated up to GCSE Grade C/5 or equivalent
  • NEBOSH qualified or working towards
  • National General Certificate In Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent, is desirable
  • A full driving licence is essential for this role
  • The ability to influence, persuade and direct the Health and Safety activities of the organisation and promote best practice.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly report/strategy writing
  • Experience of working in an Educational environment is desirable
