The post holder will directly support high priority tasks within the Education and Skills directorate.

They will direct tasks for a small number of business administration apprentices who are deployed to provide high quality administrative and business support services to teams within Education & Skills.


They will work closely with a number of senior managers within the directorate, stakeholders and schools from across West Sussex drawing on key skills to influence, inform and advise to ensure services and communications are delivered to a high standard.


They will be quick to gain the trust and respect of other service managers and teams in order to secure credibility and effective partnership working.


Experience and Skills Key Skills**:

  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • High standard of written and spoken English.
  • Computer literate and competent in Microsoft Office software.
  • Confident and credible when communicating with colleagues at all levels of the organisation and senior school leaders.
  • Ability to advise, problem solve and facilitate.
  • A clear, calm approach to coaching and directing others.

Qualifications and/or experience:


  • A degree or equivalent qualification that would require a high standard of written English to be demonstrated.
  • Confident in the production of spreadsheets, communications such as newsletters, formal letters and presentations for senior management & schools to use.
  • Demonstrable experience of working independently, confidently and flexibly to balance priorities and deadlines both for themselves and for those they direct tasks to.
  • Some experience of coaching others

  • Key responsibilities

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Compiling the weekly communications to schools.
    • Working with internal colleagues and individual schools to create the monthly Education Matters newsletters.
    • Evaluating the impact of communications activity, including the impact on audience, resource requirements, risks and campaign costs.
    • Providing project support as required.
    • Direct tasks for, and coach, a number of business administration apprentices; closely monitor their work and assist with their training, liaising on a regular basis with their training provider and suggesting opportunities for these apprentices to complete the units required for their qualification.
