The successful applicant will be well supported by Orthoptists and the wider multidisciplinary team consisting of Consultant Ophthalmologists, all with various sub-specialty interests, in addition to junior doctors, Optometrists and Ophthalmic nurses.

Applications are welcomed from newly and recently qualified Orthoptists, in addition to those with experience. New/recent graduates would start as Band 5 working towards Band 6, following the BIOS preceptorship. Preceptorship will take minimum of 12 months.

This is a full time, permanent position, however flexible working requests are welcomed.

In addition to these clinics the successful applicant will be involved in community, specialist thyroid and stroke clinics, depending on experience.

The Orthoptic team also support the Acute Referral (Emergency Eye) Clinic clinics as required.

The department is very supportive of further extended scope work e.g. pre and post-op cataract assessment, AMD clinics (inc. IVT/injections) etc. We are keen to expand our variety of extended roles. A desire to undertake such roles (with training) would be desirable.

The department regularly participates in the training of Pre-registration Optometrists, junior doctors and other staff groups so an interest in, or experience of, work as a clinical educator would be advantageous.
