We're looking for a driven Finance Officer to join our fantastic team based in Derby City Centre.

The Property and Consultancy Services department plays a key role in our organisation, by providing compliance, maintenance, and capital project services on the Council's vast and diverse property portfolio.

The Opportunity
In the role of Finance Officer, here are some examples of what you'll be doing to make an impact:

  • Ensure financial data and documentation is recorded in our internal Property Asset Management database, carrying out audits to review the quality of the financial data.
  • Ensure the finances of the department comply with the Council's Financial Procedure Rules.
  • Monitor and report on capital and revenue budgets, liaising with accountants in the Council's Finance team.
  • Provide accurate and timely financial information, analyse financial data, identify trends, and provide insights to support strategic decisionmaking.
  • Conduct variance analysis to compare actual performance against budgeted and forecasted figures.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the senior management team.
  • Manage slippage and accruals for the department.
  • Manage the process for preparing invoices for payment and for internal charges.
  • Liaise with the Council's IT and Finance departments in the implementation of a payment interface between the Property Asset Management database and the Council's financial system.
  • Resolve financial queries with other Council departments contractors and schools.

About You
To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have...

  • Experience in financial practices to monitor, forecast and report on budgets
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Great organisational skills with good attention to detail
  • Good level of IT usage (such as Microsoft 365)
  • Excellent time management skills, being able to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • High degree of professionalism, inclusivity, and confidentiality
