Description
This is Band 5 moving to band 6 upon successful completion of apprenticeship/MSc.

An opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Associate Psychologist Apprentice to join the UCLH Staff Psychology & Welfare Service (SPWS).

The Clinical Associate Psychologist (CAP) role is an exciting new psychology profession that has now been approved as a Level 7 Degree Apprenticeship.

This is an 18 month programme and will form the underpinning training phase for this post and is delivered by the University of Exeter.

You will be working within a multidisciplinary psychology team at UCLH to develop the clinical skills and competencies essential to the role.

The combination of clinical skills development with the academic knowledge and evidence base that underpins them will enable you to deliver psychologically-informed care and interventions within a physical healthcare setting, under supervision of an experienced and HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist.

SPWS is well-established within the Trust and the post-holder will join a friendly multi-disciplinary team of clinical and counselling psychologists, psychotherapists, counsellors and mediators.

This is an exciting and critically important time to work in this area, helping to support our diverse hospital workforce to cope with the impact of, and recover from the pandemic as well as the ongoing nature of healthcare work in acute hospital settings.

While this psychology service provision has been in place for over 20 years at UCLH, the demand for the service has risen considerably in recent years.

The covid-19 pandemic has further increased the need for individual and team level staff support.

The Staff Psychology Service continues to address these needs, offering prompt access to highly specialist assessment and a range of evidence-based psychological interventions for staff.

It is also part of the wider recovery programme and long term health and wellbeing agenda at UCLH.

We work closely with our workforce colleagues in Staff Experience, Training & Development and alongside our Staff Networks to encourage long term and sustainable cultural change within the organisation.

We aim to reduce stigma, increase engagement in self care and organisational support to help our staff thrive at work and in their personal lives.

Our team is expanding in response to the psychosocial needs of staff emerging during the coronavirus pandemic and will aim to support the recovery of the organisation and staff following the pandemic based on our trauma informed stepped-care approach.

The post-holder will become a key member of these broader innovative projects including opportunities to work with teams and to help develop organisation-wide interventions.

This is a specialist role within the service that requires the post-holder to be confident to work independently within their own team as well as closely with multi-disciplinary teams across the Trust.

The post holder will also be required to provide training and supervision for clinical staff. SPWS uses a hybrid model regarding its working practices.

There is some flexibility in the role to work remotely, with the main responsibilities covering onsite support provision within the clinical areas of the different hospitals and acting as part of our ward based surge response to support staff.

Supervision will be provided by an experienced Practitioner Psychologist with line management by the Clinical Lead Consultant Clinical Psychologist.

  • At least Grade 4 or C GCSE in Maths and English (or equivalent)
  • A minimum 2:2 first degree in Psychology, or an equivalent conversion course accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS). Applicants should be eligible for BPS Graduate Basis for Chartership (GBC) and will need to have or applied for Graduate Membership for entry to the programme. Read more about
