Student and Academic Services are currently recruiting for the role of Placement Team Leader, to join our newly established Faculty Student Centres.

The Directorate is responsible for ensuring that students have an excellent experience and provides services across the student and academic lifecycle from enrolment to graduation, covering everything from wellbeing services to ensuring new courses are set up correctly.

This is an exciting opportunity and will suit an experienced supervisor, that enjoys working in a dynamic environment focused on improving students and stakeholder experiences.

As a Placements Team Leader, you will lead the team providing support for student placements.

Our Placements Team are part of a dynamic and evolving landscape of practice-learning which reaches beyond our many partners into placements within communities across the region.

Placement activity accounts for a significant proportion of a student's course when studying a professional degree and is imperative to ensuring our students have the relevant opportunity to gain experiences and the required skills for their chosen profession.

The post holder will work collaboratively with placement leads to ensure business and support services are effective, efficient, and sustainable in meeting the needs of our students, staff, and stakeholders.


This post is based at our City South Campus and is for a 9-month maternity cover Fixed Term Contract.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Provide line management to Senior Placement Coordinators, supervising their workload, conducting performance reviews etc.
  • Leading the administration of all professional placements for HELS students to ensure students have a variety of placement experiences, and to maintain records on relevant information systems.
  • Supporting academic leadership with the planning of all placements, including attending meetings with partners and other placement providers.
  • Collating and analysing information regarding placements to enable the team to monitor targets, identify areas for improvement, and continue to improve the Placements function for students, academic staff, and external placement providers.
  • Work collaboratively with the Placements Finance and Reporting Analyst and Placements Payments Administrator to ensure accuracy and timeliness of data returns and payments.
  • Maintain regular contact and constructive relationships with organisations we work with to provide student placements, resolving problems, addressing queries, and explaining processes.
  • Provide written follow up to any actions to enable tracking if necessary.

Skills and Experience:


  • Educated to A Level standard or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to draft documents and correspondence.
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills.
  • Strong numeracy skills and ability to analyse complex numerical data.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and the ability to work on new systems.
  • Methodical, detail oriented and flexible in approach to work, maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of stakeholders in a professional and assured manner.
  • Proactive with the ability to work independently as well as delivering within a team.
  • Curious, customer service oriented, with a commitment to personal accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Comfortable with adapting to change, driving own professional development.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusivity for staff and students.
