Salary:
£43,516 - £46,549 per annum


The role of Advanced Public Health Practitioner will support the prevention / promotion agenda within the Living and Working Well Team in being at the forefront of key strategies and programmes that impact on the health and wellbeing of the population whilstcontributing to the planning and implementation of health improvement initiatives that impact on health and wellbeing.


As a Public Health Practitioner (Advanced) you'll be the lead specialist for your own health improvement area(s) and will support the Public Health Lead to identify the priorities for health improvement programmes across a range of organisations and communitygroups, developing long-term plans for health improvement.


Some of your work could include:
- promoting the involvement of the public in the development and evaluation of your public health improvement activities
- evaluating the effectiveness of your activities by undertaking detailed public health audits and public surveys, and analysing the results
- using evidence to provide highly specialised advice to organisations and communities
- planning, developing and monitoring specialist services (such as smoking cessation, workplace health, weight management)
- communicating important public health messages and marketing their service to relevant groups and communities
- working closely with other agencies to achieve their aims
- monitoring and evaluating the impact and outcomes of health improvement programmes and initiatives

You may be expected to manage a budget, and will be involved in staff recruitment and management.

You'll need to demonstrate a sound understanding of local government and partnership working.


You will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to confidently write for different audiences and purposes.

You will be able to influence and persuade a wide range of stakeholders.


You will thrive on working on your own initiative, whilst working within broad practice, using your discretion to develop and determine the overall services provided to the customer and assist with creation and implementation of necessary policies and procedureslinked to the service.


Key Skills:


  • Strong problemsolving skills with the ability to anticipate problems and resolve issues independently, planning solutions and making sound pragmatic decisions which will have a direct impact on the business / service.
  • Highly developed analytical and judgemental skills to diagnose, research, analyse and interpret highly complex or technical information to make effective business strategies and decisions.
  • Ability to present written information such as reports and briefings to internal and external stakeholders that will impact on wider service areas and improve services and outcomes for residents within West Sussex.
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective people management skills including performance management skills and the ability to provide direction and support to individuals and teams. Ability to forward plan over the long term, making effective judgements in

Qualifications and/or experience:


  • UKPHR Registered Practitioner
  • Desirable
  • Experience of working within a Public Health, Healthcare or other relevant setting.
  • Experience of working and leading programmes within a multiagency environment and developing and delivering business improvements, preferably within a performance management framework.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering or coordinating a quality customer focused service to others.
