Interim Road Safety Technical Lead

Pay rate up to £29.60 per hour PAYE depending on experience (tbc)

This opening assignment is for 3-4 months To be the technical lead working with wider council staff, councillors, delivery provider, stakeholders, and communities to provide road safety engineering expertise to develop, design, and manage improvements and changes to the council's highway network to improve safety and make the environment feel safer. Provide advice and undertake activity to deliver other road safety (vision zero) related council programmes as required

"Role Requirements" - to give yourself the maximum chance of success please try and ensure your CV addresses the following essential criteria:

  • Understanding and awareness of the latest technology developments available that helps create safer highways
  • Minimum of 5 years road safety engineering experience within local government environment
  • Experience of undertaking highway surveys from a road safety perspective both condition and design.
  • Experience of working closely with stakeholders representing different highway users, and the ability to influence and resolve competing and differing views.
  • Experience of conducting post incident reviews and audits
  • Experience of commissioning and managing works (Client perspective) carried out on the highway
  • Ability and experience to use CAD for design purposes, to design and document schemes for delivery by contactors, as well as presenting in a way for discussions with stakeholders and the public
  • The ability to interpret and analyse road safety data both standard local authority KSI data, as well as utilisation of IRAP information provided by the road safety foundation
