Overview:
First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a Mechanical Fitter on behalf of one of our clients.
Working both with the Maintenance Team or individually to ensure the safe delivery of preventative planned maintenance and repair / fault response for all areas of the core business.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Using and maintaining specialised machines and tools.
- Assembling components so they are ready for installation.
- Reading and interpreting schematic drawings.
- Performing MIG, MMA and other types of welding methods depending on the activity.
- Finding and fixing faults in pipework, hydraulics, pneumatics etc.
- Carrying out planned maintenance checks.
- Completing work orders and recording materials that are used on the job.
- Responding to breakdowns.
- Basic machining using lathes, milling machine, press, pedestal drill etc.
- Reporting any defects to line management.
- Ensuring excellent housekeeping standards in line with site safety requirements.
- Ensuring all HSQE requirements are complied with.
- Understand and embrace the company's vision for safety.
- Attend safety events as directed and keep knowledge and awareness of safe working practices up to date.
- Comply with all safety requirements including the wearing of PPE.
- Never carry out any tasks where not fully trained on that task (or adequately supervised whilst learning).
- Hold self and others accountable for complying with safety standards.
- Ensure safety considerations are taken into account when taking decisions or carrying out any task.
- Only carrying out tasks when the correct resources needed to perform the job safely are available.
- Treat safety issues in a proportionate and consistent way, never use safety as an excuse for doing or not doing something where it can't be justified.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Completed a recognised apprenticeship with qualification to at least NVQ 3 level.
- Reasonable standard of spoken and written English, demonstrable capability to read and understand work instructions, drawings, and notices/signage to ensure safe working.
- Minimum basic safety training.
- Preferred experience in concrete/precast sector, construction materials or construction sector generally, and/or specific experience in an environment with similar mechanical plant configuration.
- Experience of fitting & stripping of hydraulic & pneumatic equipment, basic milling, turning, drilling & grinding.
- Use of hand tools for precise operations.
- Experience in working alongside production deadlines, following maintenance schedules and responding to breakdowns.
- Knowledge of Company policies, procedures and practices as applies to the role, employment and the minimum standards of behaviour expected from the job holder.
- Excellent time keeping, attendance and working flexibility.
- Displaying personal attributes, which include tenacity, resilience, a positive disposition, a "cando" attitude, assertiveness & a high degree of determination to succeed.
- Able to work well in a team and support new team members.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
