The role is to support a Visually Impaired KS2 Teaching assistant within his role working with students of various capabilities at a primary school located in Merton.

The job is term time only which is for 39 weeks a year for 7 hours each week.

Support will be provided for one full day or two part time days per week with an expected start date the week commencing the 4thof January.

The support worker will be expected to provide administration and organisational support. Working in the mainstream of an inclusive primary school with an additional alternative provision for children with Autism.

  • Organising weekly lesson slides, in an accessible large print format, for the employee to teach individual children in a mainstream classroom.
  • Assistance with some class Administration tasks allocated to the employee by the class teacher.
  • Support with the preparation of lesson resources for children with SEND.
  • Familiarisation with the school IT systems and Google Drive.
  • Assistance with the assessment and evaluation of with SEND children.
  • The School may require the support worker to accompany the employer during structured lunchtime and outside activities.
The role would suit an individual with good administration and personal skills.

It provides an opportunity to support an individual with a visual impairment and gain experience of working in an inclusive primary school.

It may be possible to make the role more flexible in the future.


The school would require a enhanced DRB check and would expect the support worker to attend school inductions and safeguarding training.

About You

You will be able to demonstrate:
An in-depth understanding of visual impairment and its impact on a persons everyday working life, (essential - 2 years).

  • You will be a creative thinker who easily identifies solutions and is able to communicate effectively
  • You will have a relaxed and easygoing personality with a high level of written/verbal communication and professionalism;
  • Have a valid DBS and be able to provide proof (required);
  • You will be able to demonstrate a high level of trust and integrity with a good understanding of confidentiality;
  • You will be Punctual, organised, flexible and reliable;
  • You will be resilient to work pressures
  • Adaptable to change.

Pay, Hours and Benefits:

In return for your work you will be paid £14.35 per hour

Pension contributions and holiday pay is supported and paid in addition to wages.
