Contract: 15hrs per week (0.4 WTE)

Luton Primary Care Access Service (PCAS) are looking to recruit a Band 6 to continue to improve children and young people's mental health services in Luton and the surrounding area.

The PCAS team covers the population of Luton and surrounding areas including Leighton Buzzard and Dunstable. A small team working principally within the GP surgeries offering Tier 2 short evidence based interventions for those aged 0-18 with mild to moderate mental health problems

This is a community-based post, located within GP practices.

The post holder will be aligned to the Dunstable area PCN working alongside key colleagues from primary care, social care, third sector organisations and community paediatrics.


There will be the opportunity to contribute to the development and implementation of a comprehensive stepped care model of emotional wellbeing support for children and young people across Luton.

The stepped care model uses the Thrive framework, where the PCAS deliver the Giving Advice and Getting Help quadrants of care, and as needed time limited interventions.


Due to location of the post, the post holder will require a high degree of professional autonomy and self-management, and will be required to account for their professional practice through appraisal and audit.

There is robust supervision and internal training and support for your professional development included in the post.


The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of child mental health services in partnership with primary care in Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard areas.


This is a community based post, located within GP practices across the areas offering episodes of care, triage, assessment, group work and short term treatments of a wide variety of mild to moderate clinical presentations.

Also, using whole system approaches, such as training, in order to inform communities and frontline services on mental health, destigmatising mental health.

The post holder will be aligned within the GP clusters across the area, working alongside key colleagues from primary care, early help, social care, third sector organisations and community paediatrics.


The post holder will be part of the Primary Care Access Service (PCAS), (and wider CAMH Access Services, CAS, embedded in the community with partner services) and will contribute to the development and implementation of a stepped care model of emotional wellbeing support for children and young people of Luton.

The stepped care model follows the Thrive framework, where PCAS delivers Giving Advice and Getting Help services, and ease the stepping up to Getting More Help and Risk Management CAMHS teams.


They will directly contribute to the positive, collaborative working environment within the multi-agency and multi-disciplinary integrated model of whole family working that is currently being developed across Luton Children's Services.
