Job Introduction

2 full time, 2 years fixed term contracts based within the Business and Executive Support Team (BEST) Supporting The School Organisation Team.


The School Organisation Team are responsible for the County Council's statutory duty to ensure we have sufficient school places for children in Staffordshire.

The position we are appointing to will sit within the Business Support Team and will undertake the work required to facilitate this duty.


We are looking for a Business Support Co-ordinator to join our team and work alongside the school organisation team to collate and analyse demographic data (such as number of children born across Staffordshire), produce and analyse pupil projections identifying the number of school places required, maintain accurate records of school capacities, monitor surplus places and ensure that there is appropriate publication of statutory proposals for significant changes to schools.


Flexibility is required to support other areas within the wider Business and Executive Support Service when required, to meet priority demands.

This will enable you to develop your skills and experience a variety of work opportunities across the service. There is an expectation that you will be both office and home working by local agreement and business needs.

Main Responsibilities
Main responsibilities


You'll:

  • Maintain and develop various spreadsheets and databases which hold a wealth of information about schools, school places, pupils and new housing and any other associated data and ensure the data is accurate.
  • Use demographic data available to produce and keep up to date pupil forecasts.
  • Collate information and process data which is required to submit an annual return to central government about school capacity and projected pupil numbers.
  • Create maps and manipulate data using CadCorp mapping software. Maps are often required to plot where pupils live in relation to the school they attend.
  • Monitor inboxes associated with School Organisation & School Improvement Team and need to respond to both internal and external colleagues.
  • Strong attention to detail and the commitment to the quality and accuracy of data
  • The ability to work as part of a team but also using their own initiative
  • Experience in collating and analysing data from a variety of sources
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience using mapping software for both the creation of maps and manipulation of data
