Description

The overall responsibility of the Health and Safety Officer is to develop and implement a Health and Safety policy and culture across the Group.

The H&S Officer will develop the framework for protecting employee wellbeing, avoiding incidents, and safeguarding the business from any claims of wrongdoing.


What you will be doing?
Review current H&S policies and procedures for all Group Warehouses, Head Offices, Company Equipment and Vehicles including:

  • Risk Assessments including but not limited to machinery, DSE, manual handling, stress risk, loading and unloading, transport, COSHH, working at heights, PUWER assessments.
  • Accident Reporting in the Workplace and investigations. RIDDOR reporting, liaising with HSE/other relevant authorities. Return to works and work adjustment assessments alongside HR.

  • Development of safe systems of work for all machinery/processes
  • Site specific warehouse and sitespecific procedures


Liaise with Site Managers to establish appropriate Permit to Work and Contractor Controls to ensure contractors carry out their works in accordance with the appropriate legislation, and health & safety procedures.

Maintain database of approved contractors, review & approve contractor RAMS.

Set the strategic direction for health and safety management and appropriate workplace programmes including First Aid and Fire Marshal. Maintain sufficient numbers of first aiders/fire marshals across shifts and sites.

Work alongside site managers to ensure Health and Safety equipment and PPE are maintained to sufficient levels.

Train site managers on their Health and Safety responsibilities and ensure they comply to a high standard.

Develop detailed H&S guidelines and induction processes for existing and new employees. Ensure all H&S inductions are carried out for new employees across the group.

Work alongside the food production team to ensure that food safety guidelines align with general health and safety practices.

Provide weekly and ad-hoc updates to Company Directors on H&S risks and wins across the group sites.

Environmental:
Assist in the annual greenhouse gas emission calculations and reporting for group. Managing waste streams and creating monthly waste reports. Monthly energy reporting for the group


Conduct and carryout internal and compliance audits of all Group sites; report on findings and manage corrective actions and preventative measures.

Identify areas where training/certification is required to meet the standards imposed by Legislation, Approved Codes of Practice, or H.S.E. guidance. Arrange training/certification once identified.

Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of health and safety legislation and guidance. Keeping up to date with HSE initiatives and regular horizon scanning for upcoming changes. Communicating relevant updates with wider business.

Responsible for ensuring that minimum HSE legal requirements are met across all Rondanini and Salvo sites.


Who are we looking for?
Experience in a mid to senior level health and safety role with both hands-on and strategic experience

FMCG or Food industry experience, essential

Experience in developing and implementing Strategic Health and Safety programmes within a warehouse setting, essential

Good understanding food production and food safety guidelines, desirable

Qualification in health and safety, such as a masters, NVQ, BSC or NEBOSH national diploma, essential.
