I am working with a Public Sector Organisation based in Oldbury who are looking for a Sr Information Governance & Investigation Officer for 3 months initially.

The role is full time, to start ASAP and is paying up to £22.56 Umb P/hr

Job Purpose
To lead and undertake the service area's work in delivering the Council's obligations under FOIA, GDPR and DPA 2018.

This will include effective monitoring and management of the Council's responses to FOIA requests, SAR requests and data breaches, contributing to project work, developing junior staff members and supporting senior members of staff.

To investigate and manage data breaches reported across the Council.

To act as an investigator as required in various areas of work to assist the Monitoring Officer and Deputy Monitoring Officer including but not limited to elected member conduct issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To assist with the introduction, operation and upgrading of relevant information technology systems and procedures within the team. This will include time recording on the departments case Management system and running all cases through the case management system in line with the departments civica policy.
  • To maintain and develop professional knowledge, skills, and experience to further enhance service delivery and support colleagues both within the service area and Council wide.
  • To have a detailed understanding of relevant legislation and underlying concepts and principles of the work area.
  • To be an active member of the Council's Information Governance Board and support and promote high standards of information governance across the Council.
  • To be responsible for the administration and discharge of the council's functions under data protection and freedom of information legislation and supervise others in this task.
  • To manage, monitor, allocate and undertake investigations in relation to data protection breaches and report to the Legal Manager-Regulatory and Governance and DPO.
  • To prepare responses to the ICO as and when required.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience of working within a complex environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience of working within the area of Information Governance and or Data Protection.
  • Experience of planning of services within the political and partnership context of SMBC.
  • Experience of supervising employees and allocating workloads.
  • Experience of negotiating and consulting with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of working on own initiative with occasional guidance.
  • Experience of briefing/providing information to Elected Members and/or Chief Officers.
  • Ability to undertake workload with mínimal supervision.
  • Experience of working within Local Government.
