We are looking for a
Support Worker to join the team in changing lives.

At Gloucester House we are committed to working in partnership with clients, families, funders and others to provide a specialist addiction recovery service, which is person centred and outcome focussed.


The Support Worker will be expected to:

  • Understand and work within the Mission and Values of The Salvation Army acting in a professional and ethical way at all times when representing the organisation.
  • Understand and work within the Gloucester House Mission Statement and ethos in order to support clients to achieve recovery skills.
  • Be proactive in maximising outcomes which will demonstrate quality and effectiveness in all aspects of the programme.
  • Ensure client consultation is included and integral in service development initiatives in the specialised area.
  • Use motivational and client engagement skills to build a therapeutic alliance with clients.

Specific Areas of Responsibility

  • Ensure support plans are undertaken and reviewed in a timely manner. Plans should be personcentred and outcome focused, taking into account client needs and choices. Reviews should ensure clients are meeting their identified goals.
  • Ensure client risk assessments are completed and reviewed according to specified timescales, or when situations change. Implement risk management strategies and uphold Safeguarding vulnerable adults procedures.
  • Assist client to access meaningful activities and improve their practical skill set in liaison with other staff.
  • Provide early intervention support for clients who are new to the service and who may be ambivalent about the recovery journey in order to retain clients in treatment.
  • Ensure client records are satisfactorily maintained and updated in a timely manner, using Atlas client monitoring and outcome system and other databases.
  • Support clients to access the appropriate benefits and make personal payments made as part of budget plan.
  • Work in partnership with external providers to support clients to move on to suitable accommodation, oversee referrals and assessments to ensure effective outcomes for clients.
  • Provide support to clients at the moveon house, including time planning and sourcing voluntary placements.
  • Assist in planning and pursuing agreed responses and strategies to contain and change challenging behaviour.
  • Ensure medication is administered with accuracy and attention to detail and develop an understanding of the effects and uses of various medications.
  • Ensure urine and breath tests are carried out consistently and with appropriate regularity for individual clients.
  • Complete and observe Safe Mission plans as appropriate, being aware of health & safety considerations on or off Centre
  • Participate in guest session presentations to the client group as part of the treatment programme.
  • Be part of a team providing in house support/activities, including housekeeping issues re waste disposal, clean and safe environment at Gloucester House and Windrush moveon house.
  • Undertake a specialist role within the centre, such as the oversight of medication procedures or client move on housing arrangements.
  • Knowledge of the main support needs which are commonly faced by homeless and vulnerable clients
  • An understanding of working in a psychologically informed way
  • The ability to take the lead and make decisions
  • Ability to work in busy environment, be solution focused, show good time management skills and can demonstrate ability to prioritise and make decisions under pressure
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in range of IT Packages including Microsoft
