Role Responsibility

Our library service has a lot more to offer than just books.

With reading groups, talks and exhibitions, libraries offer a range of activities for every age group - from Baby Rhyme Time to internet classes for older people.

To deliver all this, we need the right people serving our customers.

While relevant experience would come in handy, it isn't essential - it's much more important that you're friendly, outgoing and approachable.

If you enjoy working as part of a team, have a welcoming, helpful attitude to the public and are interested in delivering services to the community, we would love to hear from you.

23 hours per week are worked across a range of hours including weekends/Saturdays, and you may be required to undertake periods of lone working, as well as working at other locations across the Maidstone Library district.

As a Kent County Council employee, you will enjoy the following benefits:

  • 26 days annual leave rising to 28 after 5 years plus bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time staff).
  • Competitive salary.
  • Local Government Pension Scheme.
  • Opportunities for training and professional development.
  • A wide range of health and wellbeing support.
  • Good work/life balance.
  • Access to Kent Rewards scheme, with discounts and cashback from hundreds of companies.
This post is considered by KCC to be a customer-facing position.

The Council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.

The appropriate standards are set out in the Job Description/Person Specification.

Applicants to previous Customer Support Assistant vacancies in the past 6 months who have been unsuccessful need not apply.

Interview dates:
Week commencing 16th January 2023.
