Description

Our client are an established manufacturing business supplying the FMCG sector and are currently looking to recruit a Production Shift Manager to join their team.


Overall Purpose:


  • Health and Safety.
  • Food Safety.
  • Manufacture of goods on site.
  • Personnel Management.

Responsible For:


  • Production Supervisors.
  • Production Machine Operators.
  • Production Operators.
  • Hygienist Operators.

Key Duties:

Health and Safety - responsible for ensuring that safe and established working practises are followed by personnel at all times. Where there is health and safety issues, the Shift Manager needs either to action this at once, or report itto either the Engineering Manager or the Factory Manager. The Shift Manager should highlight any health and safety issue at the weekly operations meeting.

Food Safety - responsible for ensuring that the manufacture of products on a shift basis complies with the requirements of the company quality system. The Shift Manager has a responsibility to understand HACCAP system operated within theCompany, the principles therein and therefore understand the food safety risks and the controls in place to minimise these risks. It is the responsibility of the Shift Manager to train and educate the staff in relevant aspects of food safety and to ensurethat the relevant controls and monitoring take place. The Shift Manager has a responsibility to communicate on food safety related issues with all relevant departments.

Product Quality/Quality System - responsible for making on line product hold/product recall decisions in timely fashion with the QA department in relation to product quality, defective materials and environmental factors. The quality systemis governed by both the HACCAP process and quality control requirements. It is the responsibility of the Shift Manager to ensure that the QC procedures designed and briefed by the Technical Department are fully implemented. It is also the responsibility ofthe Shift Manager to generate the right attitude to quality on their shift.

Hygiene and Housekeeping - responsible for ensuring that the 'Clean As You Go' policy and GMP policies are being followed at all times. The Shift Manger is responsible for ensuring that the Cleaning Schedules are followed properly and thatcleaning is of a high standard.

Operating Standards - responsible for ensuring that standards of operation comply with the requirements of our Customer Codes of Practice and the protocols laid down by third party auditors, customer auditors, and BRC.

Work Schedule - responsible for coordinating all resources on their shift to achieve the most efficient use of labour, materials and plant. This involves prioritising tasks and having a good understanding of product demand.

Plant Performance - responsible for plant performance. This includes product quality, line throughput, all material and labour cost / wastage, be able to manage / run continuous improvement projects to reduce costs in all areas.

Personnel Management - responsible for recruitment, motivation and general management of personnel on the shift.

Training Programmes - responsible for managing training programmes so that the company has an adequate supply of trained personnel to meet the current and future requirements of the Company.

  • The Shift Manager must ensure that appropriate training is in place to allow staff to understand the product attributes and be empowered to action line quality issues.
  • The Shift Manager is responsible for ensuring that there is effective and constructive communication between production and all other functions / departments during the normal course of their duties.
  • The Shift Manager should create and control regular meetings to drive cost improvement activities in all areas.
  • Responsibility to promote and contribute to the continuous improvement culture.
  • The Shift Mangers have a responsibility to ensure that they make a positive contribution to the running of the business involving all staff from all departments.

Key Skills, Experience & Qualifications Required:

  • Experience working in a similar role.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Drive training needs.
  • Proactive, positive and flexible approach to work.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy is imperative.
  • Level 2 Award in Food Safety for Manufacturing is preferable but not essential.

The Package:

- £35,000 - £37.000 per annum depending on experience.

  • 3 shift rotating pattern, 62, 210, 106. When working the early shift it may require you to work a short early morning shift on a Saturday.
