Oakhill Secure Training Centre, Milton Keynes, MK5 6AJ

Salary £40,000 - £44,000 per annum + benefits

Full Time, Permanent Role (40 hours per week)


G4S Care & Rehabilitation Services (CaRS) already successfully manages 5 prisons, one secure training centre, a number of community contracts in England and Wales and are currently mobilising a brand new prison.

The philosophy of our establishments is torehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which our employees and residentsfeel safe and secure. At Oakhill Secure Training Centre, we look after children aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention; ranging from approximately 6 months to those serving life sentences.

The vulnerable children in our care can bechallenging with a wide range of social and emotional complex needs.

This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for children to develop their life skills and address thebehaviours that have led them into custody.


We work closely with the Youth Custody Services to ensure that its regimes and designs reflect best practice in residential care to prevent offending.


We are now looking for a Safeguarding Manager who has experience in working with vulnerable children and young people in a social work capacity.

The role involves managing safeguarding investigations, external referrals to partnership agencies and ensuringchildren have a voice within the Centre.


To succeed in this role, you will need to be a dynamic and engaging individual, with experience of supporting vulnerable children who may have experienced abuse.

The role will require you to promote a child centred approach which prioritises both the safeguardingof the children's welfare and wellbeing, as well as supporting staff learning and development to ensure our compliance with the Children's Act 2004.


The role requires working with a wide range of Safeguarding Stakeholders including the Local Authority Designated Officer, Youth Custody Service and Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub amongst others.


Essential Skills

  • Must have a social work degree
  • Must be eligible for registration with Social Work England.
  • Understanding of current legislation around safeguarding in particular around children
  • Experience of working with vulnerable children
  • Knowledge of multiagency working and partnership


It is every employee's responsibility to promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons he/she is responsible for or comes into contact with.

Therefore every employee will be required to hold a current enhanced DBS (Disclosure & Barring Scheme)certificate.


You must be eligible to work in the UK and must have been resident in the UK for a minimum period of 3 years.
