An exciting development 6 month secondment opportunity has arisen for the appointment of a Band 6 Ward Sister/Charge Nurse position for Ward C7 at the Royal Blackburn Hospital.


The successful post holder will demonstrate strong leadership qualities and have a passion for improving the patient and relative experience in addition to having a sound clinical knowledge base.

In addition to this, you will possess well developed communication skills that will be used to engage, inspire and motivate both staff and patients in the clinical area.

Good time management skills are essential, as is the ability to prioritise your workload.

The focus for the post holder will be in the following key areas:

Provide nurse leadership, improvement, and management of services within this acute ward setting in order to ensure the highest standards of patient care and service are delivered in the most efficient and effective way.

Be a confident role model for the junior nursing team. Ensure improvements in patient outcomes and the safety, treating patients with dignity and respect. Ensure best practice in infection control. In conjunction with the Ward Manager ensure all quality improvement work is implemented and sustained. Ensure safe and effective discharge planning. Support the provision of a clean environment

post holder is expected to:


  • Participate in the overall management of the ward including nights in conjunction with the Ward manager.
  • Support the Ward Manager in the education and training of ward staff.
  • In coordination with the Ward Manager promote delivery of high quality research based nursing care.
  • Participate in the implementation and monitoring of programmes of care.
  • Responsible for promoting effective and efficient utilisation of available resources.
  • To facilitate an environment conductive to learning and professional development.
  • Ensure that Trust policies and directives are adhered to at Ward level.
  • Act in accordance with the Nursing & Midwifery Code of Conduct (NMC)
  • Deputise for the Ward Manager as required.
