Overview of role:

The purpose of Hope into Action: Coventry (


HIA:
C) is to enable churches in Coventry and the surrounding area to house the homeless. The City Co-ordinator leads the charity's work.

They manage the charity's staff, oversee our empowerment work supporting churches and tenants, and lead on relationships with churches and the other organisations and agencies working in housing and homelessness.

With the trustees they develop our strategy for carrying out and growing our work.

They ensure that the charity meets its legal obligations and take the lead on our finances, safeguarding, and health and safety.


Tasks and Responsibilities

Strategic and Spiritual Leadership:


  • Overall leadership of the charity, working with the trustees to set strategy and vision, and modelling and ensuring the charity adheres to Hope into Action's values.
  • With the trustees, developing strategy to grow the Charity's work by increasing our number of church partners and strengthening our structures and capacity to support churches and tenants.
  • With the trustees, ensuring the charity complies with its legal obligations and maintains a high standard across all areas of its work.
  • Maintain a strong emphasis on prayer and a Biblical basis for decision making and policy writing.
  • Devote specific time to pray for the organisation, contribute to corporate worship and prayer and attend regular retreats.

City Staff & Team Co-ordinator:


  • Linemanage

HIA:
C's staff team.

  • Oversee staff inductions and training.
  • Oversee the process of designing new staff roles and recruitment to them.

Co-ordinating Church Empowerment:


  • Invest in relationships with partner church leaders.
  • Oversee delivery of training for Friendship and Support Group volunteers.
  • With Empowerment workers, grow and maintain support from F&S Group volunteers and the congregations of partner churches through communications and events.
  • Agree Service Level Agreements with new partner churches.

Co-ordinating Tenant Empowerment:


  • Oversee the process of finding new tenants and seek to minimise vacancies.
  • Follow and ensure that Empowerment Workers follow HIA UKs practice and policies in their tenant support work.
  • With EWs regularly assess tenant support work, agree strategies for support and monitor risk levels, being prepared to step in if required.
  • Take on the EWs tenant support work when cover is required.
  • Oversee warnings and/or eviction of tenants when necessary.
  • Reporting to the trustees and other stakeholders on

HIA:
C's tenant support work.


Representation, Networking and Promotion of HIA:

  • Lead the promotion of

HIA:
C with a view to finding new church partners and expanding our supporter base (volunteering, prayer, donors and investors).

  • Develop and maintain working relationships with other organisations and agencies in the homelessness and housing sector.

Supporter relations and fundraising:


  • Oversee supporter relations, developing and maintaining a network of prayer and financial support using newsletters, social media, etc.
  • Keep prayer central to communication with both staff and church partners.
  • Oversee and implement fundraising strategy, sustaining and growing income from donors, fundraising events and grants.

Governance and Policies:


  • Plan, prepare and attend Trustees meetings.
  • Oversee development and implementation of policies
  • Adhere and ensure staff adhere to all

HIA:
C policies and relevant HIA UK policies.


Safeguarding:


  • As safeguarding lead, ensure full implementation of

HIA:
C's safeguarding policies.

  • Ensure all staff, volunteers and trustees are appropriately recruited and trained in safeguarding matters.
  • Ensure all staff, volunteers and trustees have DBS checks and that these are renewed as required by the safeguarding policies.
  • Have oversight of all safeguarding and other incidents, ensuring policies are followed and police, social services and other statutory agencies are involved where necessary.
  • Ensure reports and any other necessary information on safeguarding and incidents are shared with HIA UK, Charity Commission and any other relevant agencies.
  • Liaise with safeguarding officers of partner churches, sharing policies and ensuring those are followed, involving them in handling incidents when appropriate.
