MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES To perform, interpret, independently report and record on own ultrasound examinationsundertaken in line with protocols agreed by the Department of Radiology and the Trust.

To be qualified and competent to undertake all aspects of obstetric including DQASSaccreditation for first trimester combined screening, gynaecology and general medicineultrasound.

To plan and prioritise own patient workload. Plan, organise and assist in specialist clinical procedures.

Participate in the formal training and assessments for Radiographers and other Healthcare professional undertaking advanced practice qualifications within ownspeciality. Training and supervision of relevant staff groups deployed to the ultrasound department. To participate in the audit process to maintain high standardsfor the Ultrasound service. To assist the Consultant Radiographer in the day to day running of the department.

Participate in the future planning and evaluation of the service.

Commitment to CPD in order to maintain skills and knowledge required to meet the demands of the post and develop it where necess KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS To exercise judgement based on knowledge and experience to assess patient condition and amend technique/protocols from a range of alternatives.

To have highly developed physical skills to manipulate patients and equipment with precision for all examinations and especially for such procedures as transvaginal ultrasound on a daily basis.

Must demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills, frequently imparting highly distressing news to patients and carers in an empathetic manner e.g.

foetal death/abnormalities.

In terms of extended scope of practice, we have 2 Sonographers undertaking Head and Neck ultrasound including interventional techniques such as FNAs and aspirations.

We are also in the process of extending the scope of the entire team to perform simple MSK scanning.

You will rotate through the department maintaining your skills in obstetric, early pregnancy, gynaecology and general medicine scanning (following a preceptorship period if needed).
