Hybrid working with regular travel to our London Bridge Office

Prostate cancer is harming too many men, in exchange for too few cures, which is why we are motivated more than ever to deliver a future where prostate cancer is no longer limiting men's lives.

We invest in the most innovative research which will expand our understanding of prostate cancer and one day improve the lives of men with the disease.

Last year we awarded over £9.5m to researchers across the UK to develop better treatments and more effective approaches to diagnose the disease.

We intend to surpass that this year (and in future years) as we embark on new ground-breaking initiatives to revolutionise how prostate cancer is diagnosed and treated.

What the job involves

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with extensive experience in research grant funding and management, who will manage our excellent Research Funding Team to deliver our suite of research funding schemes and oversee our portfolio of active research grants.

This role is critical in ensuring that we support the highest quality research that can accelerate the advancements we achieve through research to one day benefit men affected by prostate cancer.

You will be accountable for the management of our portfolio of active research grants, overseeing the contracting of new awards and leading our Grant Managers to monitor progress against project timelines and milestones, and provide support to our grant holders to optimise the delivery of their grants.

You will develop a detailed understanding of the science behind these projects and build strong working relationships with the researchers we fund.

Through your detailed knowledge of our research portfolio, you will also help and inspire colleagues across the charity to understand and engage with the research we fund, working closely with them to showcase our research portfolio to supporters and potential donors.

This role is central to our overall strategy and mission, as it is through research that we will see the biggest breakthroughs that will benefit men for years to come.

You will also work collaboratively with the other team Heads and our Leadership Team on cross-organisational strategic priorities, such as our efforts towards reducing health inequalities and enhancing our relevance and reach to the communities most impacted by prostate cancer (particularly taking responsibility for ensuring that our research programmes and processes deliver improvements for Black men at risk of and diagnosed with prostate cancer).

You will represent the charity externally at meetings and conferences, and you will also regularly present updates on our research activities to our Trustees.

What we want from you
This is a critical role for us, as research plays a significant part in our charity strategy.

We are looking for someone who is passionate about, and highly experienced in, research funding and grant management who can hit the ground running.

You should be motivated to consistently perform to the highest standards, keen to engage with the research community and to try new ideas to continually improve the way we fund and manage our research.

We are looking for someone with demonstrable experience of managing a team, forming a cohesive unit that effectively and efficiently delivers on their objectives.

You should be a confident and clear communicator with a meticulous attention to detail, comfortable liaising with a variety of stakeholders, including senior researchers, colleagues and trustees.

Importantly, you must be excited and motivated about achieving major improvements for men with, or at high risk of, prostate cancer.

Why work with us?
Every man needs to know about the most common cancer in men - prostate cancer. It's a real and present danger that takes over 12,000 of our dads, grandads, brothers and friends each year.

Prostate Cancer UK is the largest men's health charity in the UK. We have a simple ambition - to stop prostate cancer damaging lives. We invest millions in research to revolutionise testing, treatment and care.

We're blazing a trail to a screening programme that could save thousands of lives with regular, accurate tests for all men at risk.

And we work tirelessly to spread the word about men at risk and offer specialist support to people living with the disease.

Work with us and you'll see your efforts pay off as we give men and their families the power to navigate prostate cancer.
