The aim of strategic workforce planning is the ongoing evaluation of workers skills, capacity, performance and productivity, proactively managing the shifting workforce needs of the business to meet our strategic and operational requirements.

The role holder will be responsible for leading and providing expertise to senior leaders of identified major functional areas to facilitate the creation of strategic workforce plans for the identified functional area for FY24-26 and headcount plans for FY24 over a 6-month timeframe.

The Strategic Workforce Planning Lead will be a senior leader, directly reporting to the EVP Business Transformation.

The jobholder will operate in an area that is new to Sage and will need to be a pioneer in building the Strategic Workforce Planning capability across the business, both in terms of the creation of strategic workforce plans, as well as identifying and developing the SWP processes, tools and working practices needed to enable that to happen.

This role is a 6 month contract


Key Responsibilities

  • Key accountabilities and decision ownership:
  • End to end responsibility for strategic workforce planning methodology & process execution
  • Delivery, through facilitation and stakeholder management, of Strategic Workforce Plans for 8 prioritised areas of the business (3x GTM regions, Marketing, Customer Support, Product, Finance and People), working with the lead PBP, FBP and business lead in each area to deliver an initial SWP for FY2426 and a headcount plan for FY2
  • Embeds and enhances the SWP methodology through building the plans across the business
  • Ensures that SWP decisions are supported by robust, reliable data, analysis and insights
  • Scenario plans across critical workforce segments e.g. early careers, understanding the value of certain roles / workforce groups on delivering against the business strategy
  • Accountable for driving implementation of the SWP plan set through identifying key levers and working with business leads to drive progress.
  • Accountable for stakeholder engagement, working at ELT & ET level to ensure alignment, buy in and active sponsorship of the SWP process and outcome

Skills, know-how and experience:

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of the core OE squad and to deliver work in a matrix structure
  • Exceptional relationship building and influencing skills with experience of working at the ELT / ET level
  • Proven commercial acumen, leadership experience and very strong stakeholder management and communication skills to manage the various people, finance and business stakeholders
  • Ability to build rapport and influence across the organization at all levels.
  • Ability to distil complex topics in to focused solution, actions and outcomes
  • Can work under pressure, jiggling multiple priorities to deliver to tight deadlines
  • Understands when to escalate issues and risks to support timely delivery and prevent surprises
  • Ability to navigate and deliver through ambiguity
  • High levels of personal energy and ability to work with a range of people and cultures at all levels.

  • Good understanding of Sage, how we operate today and our future vision and strategy

Technical / professional qualifications:

  • Desire to become the SWP expert at Sage

Key performance indicators:

  • Delivery of SWPs for 8x workforces within the deadlines set by strategic workforce planning
