Bechtel provides good engineering, environmental, engagement and project management support to HS2 as a Delivery Partner across Phase 2b.

We focus on the delivery of Hybrid Bills and advice to HS2's client, the Department of Transport, to assist her Majesty's Government in making investment decisions.

HS2 is a hugely important project for the country as it will generate economic opportunities for those communities and businesses between Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and beyond.

HS2 will play an increasingly important part in the post Covid-19 pandemic recovery and this team is a key part of the engine to make this happen.


Bechtel has worked on the UK's largest and most complex rail projects including HS1, Tube Lines, Crossrail, West Coast Mainline and Great Western Route Modernisation.

This role carries a part time tele-working status, which provide the opportunity to work from home part of the time and in the Birmingham office approximately 5 days per fortnight.


Job Purpose


Develops summary and detailed estimates for the estimating process across the company, providing accurate and robust figures to be used by internal and external stakeholders.

Takes a lead role in estimate assurances and reviews and presentations and provides and supports data and cost analysis


Accountabilities
Assesses estimates and provides input for detailed/bottom -up forecasting outturns against benchmarks, norms and current progress.


Incorporates best practice from industry estimating and related controls services to support consistent best in class approaches and decision making.

Provide support to the development of programme wide models including (amongst others) indirect costs, whole life, and prelims.

Responsible for reviewing estimates from consultants and provides recommendation on OLE systems costs.


Knowledge, Skills, Experience
Degree in engineering, construction management, business management or related field

Knowledge of OLE systems, suppliers, products and costs.

Extensive knowledge of capital cost estimating

Demonstrated ability to readily analyse estimate data and correlate to other projects and to conceive the total project scope.

Experience working with multiple estimating disciplines and a matrix organization including Construction, Engineering, Project Controls, Procurement, Contracts and Commissioning to collect all necessary data on scope and quantities to prepare accurate estimates


Must demonstrate advanced level of expertise in the use of MS Word, PowerPoint, Power BI and Excel, typically acquired through multiple years of experience.

Knowledge of engineering and/or construction management.
