Description

The successful applicant will be responsible, as part of the clinical team, for providing assessment, treatment and care for patients referred to the Team.

This will be in a variety of settings including patients homes, a joint antenatal and perinatal clinic, perinatal hubs and will include some remote working The Dorset Perinatal Community Mental Health Team provides comprehensive community mental health services to people of childbearing age with a team case load of approximately 250 patients.

The focus is on prevention and treatment of maternal mental health from preconception through the antenatal and postnatal period and include assessment of the parent infant bond.

Close working relationships with primary care, maternity services and social care are essential for the provision of high quality and safe perinatal psychiatric services.


The post-holder and team will work closely with these colleagues so that patients have easy access to specialist perinatal mental healthcare when needed and good communication is maintained between services.

The post-holder will hold a regular joint obstetric and perinatal clinic in the maternity setting.

The post-holder will provide leadership and be part of the perinatal leadership team, participating in ongoing strategic development of perinatal services and quality improvement projects.

The post-holder will be expected to produce high quality, timely, written documentation supporting their work, both in the ongoing clinical record (RiO) and letters of correspondence in keeping with Trust Policy.
