    Description

    We are delighted to be working with a rapidly expanding financial services company, recruiting an Interim Privacy Counsel on a six-month fixed-term contract.

    This global business operates across a diverse range of industries and has a significant presence in the US and internationally.

    The Role

    • Reporting directly to the Legal Director, you will oversee compliance and data practices internally to ensure alignment with GDPR and data protection laws in relevant jurisdictions.
    • You will support the development of our data governance function and related procedures.
    • Your expertise will inform our approach to regulatory matters, including GDPR, European payments regulations, and other international requirements.
    • You will design and implement measures to manage data use in compliance with the GDPR, developing templates for data collection, conducting data mapping, and vendor management reviews.
    • You will create and maintain internal policies and compliance-related documents.
    • You will collaborate with external counsel to advise on local data privacy law issues across our international businesses.
    • You will work closely with all business lines and our Data Protection Officer.
    • You will lead staff training, data protection impact assessments, and internal audits.
    • You will have line management responsibility for a team of three lawyers.

    About You

    • We seek a qualified lawyer with 3+ years of PQE experience in a compliance or legal function, with strong experience in privacy compliance, preferably in the financial services or regulated industry.
    • You should have a track record of handling a busy workload with minimal supervision, demonstrating excellent critical judgment, quick thinking, and agility.
    • You should have a strong background in advising on GDPR and global data protection matters.
    • Data Protection and/or Privacy certification such as CIPP, CIPT is desirable.
    • Experience in developing policy and compliance training is essential.
    • You should be comfortable working with and advising senior executives.
