Principle Purpose of the role


We are looking to recruit performance support officers (PSOs) ready for any vacancies that will arise over the coming months.

The PSOs are based in the performance analysis team within the Strategic, Business and Operational Services (SBOS) department, providing support to the performance monitoring and reporting process across both constabularies.

The posts that may become available could be on a range of contract types (permanent, temporary, full time and part time) and applicants who are successful but are not offered a post immediately will be held on a select list.


Applicants will be expected to have experience in collating and compiling information from a range of sources and systems, have good verbal and written communication skills, and be able to use their own initiative.

Main Activities of the Role

  • Collect and collate data from a wide range of sources and systems
  • Support the organisations' provision of statutory and legislative data requirements such as Annual Data Returns and Freedom of Information requests, and others set out by national guidelines such as HMICFRS, the Home Office or NPCC
  • Ensure responses to requests are timely, accurate and compliant with regulations, policies and internal processes, seeking and taking advice from the performance coordinator and/or the central FOI team as necessary
  • Prepare data to support the performance function within Strategic, Business and Operational Services, ensuring that accurate information feeds internal, external and partnership performance reporting
  • Contribute to and maintain a catalogue of data requests/submissions to enable easy access to data and replication of methodologies, and to assist with responding to queries about our submissions
  • Engage with the Data Insight Officer to ensure that SBOS' performance and statutory data requirements are reflected within the data insight strategy and that accurate and robust data is available to extract
  • Act with integrity, and in line with the Police Service's statement of mission and values, including only sharing data in line with the Data Protection Act 201
  • Any other duties that are commensurate with the role and grade as requested by management

Person Specification
It is essential that applicants meet the following criteria:

  • Experience of collating and compiling information from a range of sources and systems
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of key legislation including the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Data Protection Act 201
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce accurate and timely reports
  • Proven problem solving skills
  • Ability to use own initiative and work under pressure
  • Effective communication skills, being articulate and able to present data effectively
  • Good computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite
It is desirable that applicants meet the following criteria:

  • Previous experience of, or trained in the use of Microsoft Excel or analytical and data mining tools such as i2, Microsoft Reporting or equivalent
  • Ability to travel as required throughout Norfolk and Suffolk and to other locations as appropriate
