Microbiology and Virology services is looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the secretarial team.

The primary role will be to provide secretarial support to the Consultant Microbiologists within the department, and is based primarily at the Royal Victoria Infirmary site.


  • Interview Date 30/06/202 37 Hours 30 Minutes/Week
  • To receive and deal with correspondence and other communications
where appropriate.

  • Input data to the departmental computer system and distribute printed reports.
  • Ensuring that the Consultant's filing is managed in an efficient and timely fashion.
  • To arrange meetings, lectures, seminars etc
  • Take minutes of meetings where appropriate.
  • To participate in the training of other new entrant secretaries when necessary.
  • To deal with enquiries regarding laboratory matters in an effective and efficient manner.
  • To assist in the maintenance of confidentiality, e.g. any reports relating to cross infection, hazards and outbreaks.
  • Provide secretarial support to the Consultant Microbiologist.
  • Contribute to a comprehensive efficient and effective administration and clerical service.
  • Liaise with other departments.
  • Provides secretarial and clerical support to Consultant Microbiologists, Junior Medical staff, Managers and other departmental staff.

  • Work as part of a team of departmental secretaries.
  • Contributes to the efficient running of the department/ directorate providing personal secretarial support to the Consultant and members of the Team.
