Role Overview:

The Technical Estimator plays a key role in supporting the team by providing accurate and competitive price estimates for products and services offered by the company.

You will work closely with customers, the sales team, Engineers and the Engineering Director to understand quote requirements and develop detailed cost estimates.

This role involves a combination of office-based work, customer interactions and collaboration with internal teams. This role may require occasional travel to meet with customers, attend industry events or visit project sites. The ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines and adapt to changing priorities is essential.


This role requires a combination of technical knowledge, attention to detail and strong communication skills to ensure that quotes are both accurate and persuasive.


This role plays a vital role in ensuring the efficiency of sales operations, contributing to the overall success of the sales team by providing essential support and co-ordination.

This is a crucial role in securing new business and driving revenue growth for the division.

By providing accurate and competitive price estimates, you contribute to the success of sales initiatives and help build lasting relationships with customers.


Key Responsibilities of Role:

Cost Estimation and Preparation

  • Analyse requirements including materials, labour and overhead costs to develop detailed and accurate price estimates/quotes.
  • Prepare professional and persuasive quotations, including cost breakdowns, project timelines and terms and conditions.
  • Research competitors' pricing strategies and market trends to ensure that quotes are competitive while maximising profitability.
Sales Support

  • Preparing quotes, proposals and presentations for potential customers.
  • Coordinate and follow up on sales enquiries, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
  • Provide product information and technical details to customers as needed.
Order Processing

  • Manage the order processing system, including entering sales orders, tracking shipments and ensuring timely delivery to customers.
  • Collaborate with logistics and operations teams to coordinate product shipments and resolve any delivery issues.
Customer Communication

  • Act as a liaison between the sales team and customers, ensuring effective communication and addressing customer enquiries.
  • Keep customers informed about order status, delivery timelines and any relevant updates.
  • Communicate with customers to gather project specifications, clarify requirements and address any questions or concerns related to pricing.
Technical Documentation

  • Maintain accurate and uptodate technical documentation, including product specifications, pricing and sales contracts.
  • Ensure that all documentation complies with company standards and policies.
Sales Reporting

  • Monitor sales reports, analysing key performance indicators and sales metrics.
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on sales data to support decisionmaking.
Market Research

  • Conduct market research to stay informed about industry trends, competitor activities and customer preferences.
  • Provide feedback and insights for strategic sales planning.

Day to Day Tasks:


  • All tasks relating to sales estimation following on from receipt of site paperwork documentation including: winning quotes, management of customer requirements relating to won/confirmed sales opportunities, ordering all parts relating to sales, raising PO's for parts related to sales.
  • Raising quotations, inclusive of quotations follow up and sales analysis.
  • End to end sales pipeline management.
  • Contacting potential and existing customers to inform them about products and services.
  • General admin duties to support across the team where required.

Person Specification:


  • Proven experience in technical sales, sales estimation or related roles within a relevant industry
  • Proficiency in technical analysis and problemsolving, with the ability to assess project requirements and recommend suitable solutions
  • Customer focused, excellent attention to detail and strong negotiation skills with the ability to influence decisionmaking processes
  • Good communicator with customers and across the business
  • Organised, confident and resilient
  • Team player with a flexible approach and the ability to work unsupervised
  • Able to prioritise and work in a fastpaced environment
  • Competent in Microsoft Office
  • Additional certifications or training in sales, estimating or engineering would be advantageous
