The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is the UK's world leading competition agency, working on cartel cases and infringements of competition and consumer law.

New opportunities have arisen from the UK's exit from the EU, including building the capacity to take on bigger and more complex investigations.

This presents exciting career opportunities at the CMA for criminal and civil investigators.

Investigators in the CMA's Enforcement Directorate are the authority's specialist investigation resource and are an integral part of the case teams primarily involved in civil investigations of cartels.

The investigations team is looking to strengthen further, and are seeking to hire a Senior Investigations Officer.

Job description:

The
Senior Investigation Officer will work alongside other professionals in multi-disciplinary teams delivering the complex investigations that form a key part of the CMA's enforcement activity.

Investigators have particular responsibility for:

  • Providing expertise in carrying out search warrants and unannounced visits to trading premises.
  • Evidence reviews and analysis.
  • Interviewing witnesses and suspects.

The investigation teams constitute the CMA's specialist investigation resource and are an integral part of case teams across the organisation.

They are mainly involved in civil investigations of cartels, illegal agreements by businesses to fix prices and share markets.

They may also work on civil and criminal investigations of infringements of competition and consumer law under the Competition Act 1998, the Enterprise Act 2002 and any other relevant legislation.

The CMA prides itself on being a great place to work and strives to ensure that staff have the opportunity to grow and expand their skills portfolio.

As well as being a hugely rewarding, diverse and stimulating place to work, you will have an opportunity to work for the public good whilst stretching and developing yourself in doing so.

Person specification:

Your detailed responsibilities will include:

  • Play a leading role in preparing for and carrying out civil and/or criminal investigations, searches, inspections, witness and suspect interviews, statementtaking, opensource intelligence work, and the identification and pursuit of lines of enquiry.
  • Analyse, assess and present the evidence gathered in an investigation.
  • Provide leadership within the team on presentation of evidence to the case team and project director.
  • Take the lead in discrete parts of complex cases.
  • Work collaboratively with a range of CMA colleagues including directors, lawyers, digital forensics officers and other specialists, to meet the CMA's enforcement objectives.
