Funeral Workshop Operative, permanent

Hours: 40 hours a week (Mon-Fri)

Holiday: 20 days (plus public holidays)

The Role
We are currently seeking a dedicated and diligent Workshop Operative to join our growing team on a full-time basis.


The role combines preparing coffins in our workshop, general maintenance across our sites, and supporting our team of Funeral Directors in delivering high quality funeral services.

Responsibilities


As a Workshop Operative, your primary role will be based in our coffin workshop ensuring that all coffins and/or caskets are ordered, prepared and allocated for each funeral.


  • Liaising with internal team of Funeral Directors, and external third parties to ensure all coffins are purchased and delivered in a prompt manner.
  • Working in the workshop to prepare the coffin, adding fixtures and fittings as required.
  • Producing coffin plates using engraving machinery
  • Transporting coffins and caskets between sites.
  • Carrying out weekly stock checks of the workshop, and ordering new supplies through our internal system.
  • Carrying out repairs, maintenance, improvements, and general duties in our facilities.
  • Identifying and reporting the need for major repairs across multiple sites.


You will also be required to perform a variety of tasks alongside the team of Funeral Operatives to assist the funeral director, helping to ensure that the funeral service runs to plan.

This includes;

  • Assisting on funeral services, acting as a pall bearer, driving hearses, limousines and other company vehicles.
  • Helping with the care of the deceased, including collection and preparation of the deceased ahead of funerals.
  • Maintaining fleet of vehicles on a daily basis, ensuring they are in the correct condition for funeral services.
  • Keeping premises clean and tidy, including workshops, mortuaries and chapels.
  • Working closely with colleagues to ensure operating procedures are adhered to and maintained on a daily basis.
  • Other businessrelated duties as assigned.

Experience & Skills

  • General handyman/woman and woodwork skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to develop knowledge & skills through training.
  • Clean driving license is required.
Full training will be provided, so previous experience in the funeral sector is not essential.


Appearance
All members of staff must be well presented.


As representatives for both the business and our family, all employees are expected to act with sensitivity and professionalism at all times.

Once probation has passed successfully, we will provide matching funeral attire.


Salaries & Benefits
Any overtime worked over your contractual hours will be paid at an overtime rate.


Opportunity for out of hours working (on call one weeknight per week, and one weekend in every 4 weeks) - on completion of the probation period.
